Sounds like you still have the job, just gonna take a bit longer.
If you wouldn't have tried, and had listened to the naysayers, you probably wouldn't have the job.

Glad to hear it worked out. Bobtail is actually harder to shift than with a trailer, it's a lot "jumpier." The only exception is trying to get started on a severe incline with a heavy trailer.
Give them 110%, they are doing you a good.
