The above is a link to a shooting in Kansas City. I am always neutral on stories like this until all the fact come out. Seems like the man tried to run and was shot while holding a cell phone. Shot in the face while running away? I would not have posted it here but the radio was also talking about the incident and mentioned that the man shot was trying to turn his life around and was to start CDL school next month.

    Lets see:

    Cops in my house

    telling me to "whatever"

    I run!

cops in the house start yelling, "FREEZE, FREEZE!"

Cop in the back yard hears this.

Now has "suspect" barreling at him!

By the actions of the man known to be under house arrest, the officer is forced to make a split second decision. "does he have a gun?"

What in this scenario could have been done differently?

Don't run from the cops if you have nothing to hide?

    Mikeeee

(bring on the rebuttals) I have never been shot by a cop.

As I said, I remain neutral until all the facts are out. He was being served a Warrant. I do not know what the Warrant was for. I do not want the police shooting folks for drug use or shoplifting or child support. Murder yes. I do not know if the man was a clear and present danger to the general public. Too many cops treat the general public as if we are all the enemy. I don't want that. However, I do not want to come to a conclusion about the officers actions without more details.

The fleeing felon rule is no longer in effect. Running is not a capital crime.

When the police say, "You are under arrest, or Freeze" and you chose to run, then you have chosen a path that might lead to bad things happening.

It does not matter if they were serving a parking ticket warrant. If you act irrationally then you should expect rash, instant reactions! Not always going in your favor!

In this day and age of violence I see no reason for law enforcement to try and assess, in a split second, if the fleeing subject is a hard working god fearing individual or a gangster with 7 kills.

Again, if the individual was innocent, why did he run and bring on this situation?

    Agreed Mikeeee,

I've never been one to have problems with cops, but did have a tense encounter when they showed up at my house (wrong address) for a domestic violence complaint. They started kind of aggressive, but quickly relaxed as I demonstrated to them I was following instructions. Soon after, they realized they were at the wrong address and I was left with an interesting experience. Anyway, my point is that I don't think people are at risk of getting shot if they would just do what the cops say. Sort out the details later, but for Pete's sake, do what you are told by the man with the gun.

They did say he was on house arrest for a theft conviction so tension was high. When you are a cop and a suspect you are trying to apprehend comes running in your direction with an unknown object in his hand split decisions have to be made.

He did have a history of running so he isn't your ordinary citizen but one that projects he doesn't like cops and will do anything to get away.

Let's say he did get his CDL. What would he do when the blue lights come on? Run in a big truck?
