Pretty much everyone is giving you the same right advice. Except the one giving you terrible advice.
Plan and simple. They knock you answer. It's really unlikely they are doing it for an inspection.
Officer knock on door while in sleeper berth. My rights?

You would like to think. But don't rely on the theory to work in the state sponsored pickle parks in Ohio. The will try and wake you. Either stay asleep or tell the to go pound sand. Don't do it from drivers seat.
I won't pull into one unless is a restroom emergency.TheLoadOut and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
call the marshalls. they are the only ones that have our backs since we are federal regulated

Maybe they're just looking for a little company.

There is a large on/off ramp area on the 580 in CA at the Altamont Pass brake check. I pulled over for a nap one night and a CHP knocked on my door to check that I was okay and to warn me it was a pickle park and the guys could sometimes get pretty aggressive.Trucker61016, Dino soar, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -
The problem with your reply is I did not say DOT cops won't inspect. I said generally they don't. I know of several situations where DOT cops have awakened drivers to do DOT enforcement. They once did it a lot at the rest havens in Ky.
Next point. Let's separate inspections from this topic because it's a rabbit hole none of us need to chase after. I stand by my comment about answering that knock when it is a cop doing the knocking. Regardless of their reason for knocking if you don't reply there is a good chance this cop will take it to the next level. Class 8 tows can get really expensive, EVEN if they don't do anything.Dino soar, 201 and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
if he wants to perform an inspection tell him to go ahead and inspect away nothing says you have to help him inspect your truck

Waking up a driver that appears to be resting is chicken sheet. That has already escalated the situation. Unless I'm on fire, or something close to me is on fire. Your getting the same treatment from me. Cop,preacher, lot lizard, anyone.
I stand by my statement. He can go pee up a rope.Trucker61016, D.Tibbitt, Long FLD and 5 others Thank this. -
Just don't answer him while sitting in the drivers seat if you are on off duty time. That 1 hot shot will take it to the Nth level citing you are "on duty" due to you being in the driver seat.. at your place of work type of thing.Trucker61016, D.Tibbitt, truckdriver31 and 1 other person Thank this.
