I forgot to mention this. Called Auto Zone today and the lady that is supposed to be the one to talk to about taking/hiring new graduates was not in at the moment. Left a message for her to call me. That was this morning. Never heard back from her all day. I will try and call her again tomorrow. Hope that was not a bad sign?

Well I went to the neuro doctor yesterday and he had no problem giving me the all clear to drive so got the official letter from him and sent it over to Superior Carriers. The guy I have been talking to there said he would be out the rest of the week so it may be Friday before I find out anything meaning a yey or ney. Keeping my fingers crossed hoping for the best. Really would like to go work for these guys.
I have a couple more applications out just in case I am not able to proceed with Superior. I put one in with SNI tanker division. They called me back within an hour. Got the skinny on their compensation. Sounds decent if they can keep me busy. Put another in with Arnold Transportation. They are looking the application over and are suppose to call me in the next day or two. I will get all the info about them when they call. I put one in with Auto Zone. I will call and check on that in the next day or so. I may go ahead and put one in with Watkins Shepard as well.
Right now it is a waiting game with my first choice. So we shall see. Will update as soon as I know something. Until then....Newtrucker83 Thanks this. -
OK, I'll admit I'm biased since I drive for Superior Carriers, but I do hope you can be patient with them. I believe the compensation, benefits, and amount of home time you get with them is very hard to beat with any other company. Especially for your first year of driving. It's the route I went fresh out of school and now after 4 years with them I believe I made the best choice possible.
Is the Auto Zone job a local or OTR position? I hope you wouldn't have to be delivering parts to a bunch of stores around Atlanta. -
I believe Auto Zone has both. I see day cabs and sleeper trucks running up and down I-85. I would want to do OTR with them.Last edited: May 8, 2012
ped Thanks this. -
Hoping for some good news tomorrow with Superior or at least some kind of news anyways. Terminal Manager should be back tomorrow, fingers crossed.
Put another application in today with Groendyke. They take recent grads. Got a confirmation email saying they are looking my app over.
I will wind up somewhere, just not sure where yet!ped Thanks this. -
Well this is what I get for being totally honest (not that I could have hid my back injury). Things are not looking good for Superior Carriers. First safety guy was not too fond of my back injury even though I have a letter of clearance from my surgeon. My information has now been passed on to the safety manager for review. Trying to stay positive until I know a final answer. Am I going to keep getting turned down for this??? If I never told anyone, they would never know it by watching me walk, climb, run, etc. This is kind of depressing...

What a disappointment. Let's hope that the safety manager sees it differently. Any idea when he will give his opinion?
I would have thought the release letter along with passing the DOT physical and the strength and agility tests would be enough.
Keep us posted. -
Well, Rubberducky, I finally was able to meander over here from the "Schools" forum to your thread regarding your training at a GA technical school. This thread has been quite informatiive and I appreciate you drawing my attention to it.
I'm sorry to hear about Superior. Hopefully it will all work out in your favor with them in the end. Keep your chin up, for you never know what might be waiting for you around the corner. :smt045 -
