As long as the docs know what they are doing, you should come out of it fine. It may take awhile, but they are getting pretty darn good at fixing those sort of things.

One good note - you will have lots of time to research and read the forum :/

Suggestion - make sure you have a good protein intake and calcium - protein for muscle/soft tissue healing and the calcium for bone healing!! I hope you will be up and around soon - but make sure you follow the doc's advice - you don't want to push faster than what they say - you can do MORE damage that way.

Yep, doing exactly what the doctor says. I am not taking any chances with this. I want it to heal as properly as possible to minimize the risk of any future back problems.

I can tell you one thing for sure. This ###### hurts like heck. Thank god for pain meds! :biggrin_255:

I agree. I looked up this type of injury and it is common in auto accidents but also very dangerous depending on the severity. I am probably somewhere in the middle. But I think I will heal without surgery (fingers crossed).

Thanks for your concern. Take care.

Due to legal stuff I can't go into a lot of detail publicly but I am at home recovering for now (I wound up having surgery). Got a call today from the Director of the Commercial Truck Driving class at Athens Tech. He wanted to check and see how I was doing. I thought that was pretty cool.

Hope everyone is doing well. I will update later.

Well, I am finally going back to work after being out so long. I will be on light duty until December so it looks as if the trucking thing is out until next year.

I was going to attempt trucking class this fall but the doctor won't let me so I will be sitting at a desk pushing papers around til then!

Hope everyone out there is well and staying safe on the roads.

    Until the next update...

Sounds like it is moving forward, maybe not so swiftly, but forward still.

    Keep on it!

Not swiftly enough for me! If you read my post on 12/31/2010 there was a lot of information I did not know at the time. This so called "lower lumbar fracture" that I was told I had actually turned out to be one of my vertebrae crushed to oblivion. It is not an actual fracture that would have healed like I originally thought. I heard "fracture" so I assumed it just cracked one of the vertebrae. After some research I found out different.

Once crushed, always crushed. It won't ever heal like a broken bone in your arm or leg. Thus the need for surgery. Rods, screw, and all that fun stuff to help re-support what was crushed. So...I have a good Neuro Doctor that is taking this very seriously. He won't let me do much of anything. But that is okay. I would rather him be like that then just let me do whatever.

Never the less, it still stinks watching all those trucks roll up and down the highway everyday wishing I was driving one of them. They say everything happens for a reason. Not sure what the reason was for this. Only time will tell I reckon.

My brother in law landed on his head in high school gymnastics. He crushed c3, c4 and c5. the front half of each looked like a packet of crackers that had been stomped on!

They had to cement those three to the ones above and below. He lost the movement of 5 vert!
