From the UK, but it's a similar story here in the USA, if you can't recognize how messed up things are, I'm not sure I can take you seriously.
Oh geez! There’s another one to worry about! Virus!

While I completely agree with you....our economy and lifestyle is totally based on expansion.
As a country we have more than enough assets, productivity and cashflow for the whole population. Even those who are bad or stupid or useless or whatever. But our national morality is strongly rooted in puritanical ideology and thus only hard work in the military or commercial arena, counts as worth compensation.
If there aren't younguns in your family to support you, our economy isn't really structured to step in. Thus old men on off ramps, and widows eating cat food.... -
What level of 'replacement' do we need, really, when most of the actual manufacturing is done outside and a fair amount of the assembly is performed by robots? One farmer now can tend over a thousand acres. They don't need 10 boys and a few girls like they did just 100yrs ago for 20% of that.
With the job pool shrinking every year, why is it necessary to maintain the same labor pool? -
I remember the AOL commercials where they were offering “10 free hours to look around”.Snailexpress and HoneyBadger67 Thank this.

And there's the point exactly. More productivity but the expanded revenue does nothing for the displaced workers.
Plenty of Mainers for example used to make really high quality shoes. Almost no footwear is made here anymore and those skilled tradesmen are making sheety wages doing God knows what.
But if I suggest that it's unfair to them and we as a country could do better for all with the wealth we have then I'd be accused of being a commie. But I believe there's got to be a better way than what I'm seeing. -
You're attempting to correct someone on a message board. I think you're confused about who is embarrassed. I don't think we will ever have anything to discuss as your concept of time, finances, the internet, and general awareness are no where to be found.
