Drove OTR for over a year, and now have made it into the oilfield. Many drivers up here stay off of the 5th line, but I wanna know how it is supposed to work so I can take advantage of it, if it is useable, and beneficial.

If you can, please post a link to where the info is as well. Google searched it, and nothing turned up. Also searched here and it just showed threads with anything as the topic and oil mentioned in the thread...Thanks

Are you driving within 100 miles as the crow flys?

Nope....It is more than that on some days. I mentioned that to the boss man and he wants to log it everyday regardless.

That line is used ONLY when you are on the well site. I couldn't find the reg, but it should be on the cover of your log book. now that being said. If you use it be prepared as DOT doesn't seem to like it. That's why most ignore it and run as usual and it will make life way easier for you.I know I tried it too and it was a pain. the only thing you gain is a reset in 24 hrs instead of 34

The one I have doesn't have it. It is one that was made, not from a truck stop. All the truck stops here just have the OTR books...

Like Okieron stated, You can only use it on the oilfield site period. You also have to be supporting/servicing the operations to use the exemption.
I used the reg every chance I could. The biggest advantage is the 24hr reset.

I will look for the reg and post it.

Here you go, ask any questions and I should be able to answer them. I'm no expert though.

So with the OilField exemption....you only need a 24 hour(instead of 34 hour) restart?

All line 5, extends your 14 hour work day, so I can drive after the 14?
ex. Start at 6:00am, and my 14 ends @ 8:00pm. If I sit on site for 3 hours(twiddling my thumbs), I can then drive until11:00pm, so long as I haven't exceeded my 11hrs for the day, and 70hrs for the week.

The example you given, I would need a little more to go on. You can't drive 11hrs and be off 3hrs on the pad. Then expect to get behind the wheel and do another 11hrs of drive time. It does not work that way. Like some of us said, the ONLY big advantage of the oilfield exemption, is the 24 hr reset.
