So I did one of the late night pretrips. And I missed oil on the drive tires. It’s very weird because the center of the tire has no oil, not even the back of the tire no oil on the break drums. I pass my hands on the center hub thing to check for oil nada. But the outside of the wheel is full of oil. I don’t know if somebody dumped it there or I have something broken. What should I look for? what can it be? I figured I should find some oil on the seal. Thanks in advance

From what I see it could be the axle flange leaking. I’d clean it up and see if you have more leakage or if someone did dump something.

There is a drain plug on the hub too that can leak into that area as well if its not the axle flange thats leaking.

I saw that it’s dry as a bone. Just worry because I don’t want to cause damage to it. I cleaned the whole thing let’s see what happens you know if is supposed to leak while driving or parked?

I cleaned it up. To find where it’s leaking. Do you know if it leaks while parked or only while is driving?

They shouldn’t leak at all. Another thing to check to make sure the vent isnt plugged on the top of the diff. As the diff warm/cools it needs to be able to breathe to allow the oil to expand/contract with the heat to keep from over pressuring seals and causing leaks.

If it’s the flange or plug either will leak going down the road. The plug leaking should be easy to see. The flange not so much.

    Hub cover bolts are loose.
You won’t be able to take em off with your fingers but they’re loose enough to leak

The flange gasket is leaking, try first making sure the bolts are tight and if they are, you may have to pull the axle and replace the gasket.

    Xenergiserx and BoxCarKidd Thank this.
