I never saw an oil cooler fail in a Detroit. If it’s it does fail the oil will be so thick you can stand a spoon up in it. 3k is good price for a reman head. Your liners were probably pitted causing a little oil to leak into the coolant. That willl also give a lot blowby if the liners are worn. A bad egr cooler will cause you to lose coolant. You’ll also have some white smoke when starting out the exhaust. If they get bad enough. It will look like mud in the coolant reservoir.

Thank you your reply! Wow, so you mean that we could have not replaced the oil cooler at all? It is under 500 dollars anyway, not that much of money. In the previous post, the $4200 dollars is combined by 3000 dollars second hand cylinder head and 1000 dollars new accessories, so that is a little bit too expansive right?

I dint know what u mean by accessories. But 3k is about right for a reman head. I wouldn’t buy a used one unless it’s guaranteed to not be warped or cracked. You ll never know until you get it back together. I would just spend the extra for a reman one.

That’s high for an oil cooler I bought one a freightliner for like $160 with the ring seal kit. I had the same issues as your having and turned out be a piston liner. Little oil in the coolant a lot blowby. The block with have to be repaired if that’s the case from cavitation.

I see, I will investigate more during the weekend after i got home and keep it updated. The oil cooler is 300 and I am assuming the labor is 200. Thank you for the information. So you also did an inflame or only changed the piston liner?

With that many miles it’s best just do an inframe. It d probably cost you 7 or 8 gran just to replace the liners and counterbore the block. You should be able to get it inframed for 12k with a year warranty unlimited mileage. Rebuilding it from the block up and then replace rod and main bearings on the crankshaft through the bottom. If you guys are mechanically inclined you can drain the oil out of it and remove the oil pan and look up into the cyclinders and look at the liners but that’s probably where the oil is getting into the coolant

So these are the receipt of the cylinder head. I don't understand what is a core charge so i did a little bit research online, I found out that it might mean that if you return your old part, you can get the refund back if the part is rebuildable. I don't know if i am correct on this. Hope people can help me figure it out. I asked my father whether it is a used head or a refurmanufactured head, he doesn't know... The accessories are in the receipt from velocity. The total is around 4300 dollars to repair cylinder head. The labor fee is included in the in frame. Can you guys help me judge whether it is too expansive or is it normal. Thanks! IMG_1185.jpg IMG_1189.jpg

It’s called a core charge. They charge a certain amount for your core if you don’t bring it with u. They give it back if you send your core so it looks like if you take the old one in they will refund 1498

That's weird though because the head is there and is tested by them to see if it is leaking. And they said it is leaking so my father bought another one. I might need to call tomorrow and ask them directly.

If they found it was cracked then the core may be no good to them, in that case they will not refund the core charge.
    Standard charge.
