I have on 05 kw with an isx motor in it that has 650k on it. I am going to switch over to schaffers oil products and run a fully synthetic oil, question is... would it be worth it to run a semi synthetic in it the first oil change to kinda break er in, or just go to my fully synthetic? What do Yall think? Thanks in advance.

Just go ahead ans swap out to the full syntheic (Schaeffer's 9000) and be done with it. I usually do my first oil change at about 12,000 then go by their sample results.

Are you trying to go for real extended drains? If not, then the cost is not worth it. Schaeffer products are darn good, but you will not get your money's worth unless you take the synthetic as far as you can. Of course, that would mean you need to run a bypass or spinner filter and do the oil samples. There is no need to "break in" the engine over to synthetic. You can make the switch right away.
But here is another route that I did. I am using a 40% synthetic blend from my local oil supplier, branded under their name (Allied Oil and Supply), that they will deliver to my house in a 55 drum for the total cost per gallon of $11 (free delivery). I just put my used oil in another drum and when they deliver a new drum, they haul away the used oil for free. I then use the drum I just emptied as a new used oil drum. My ISX has 766,000 on it and oil samples look as good as when it had 300,000 on it. I change mine at around 25,000 miles.
I tried Schaeffers for a while and never got any better performance than I get with my current oil. Check with local suppliers in your area and you might be able to get good deals on a blend or a full synthetic. No beef with Schaeffer if that is the way you want to go. They have a solid reputation. -
Just change it over to a good quality synthetic. The synthetics wont thicken up as much at low temperatures and thin out at high temps. The main benefit of synthetics is that they dont break down and leave deposits like regular crude oil based ones do. There is a small fuel savings but its benefitial in the long run. If you want to keep it for the long haul, its worth it, but if your going to trade it, just go with the regular oil.
puncher Thanks this.
