What is good oil usage per week for Detroit series 60 that was just rebuilt? It has 8000 miles since rebuild. Putting in a gallon a week and not babying it. Wondering if this is normal and if so when it should taper off a bit.

Mobil 1 synthetic. It's what the mechanics use for company truck and the engines they rebuild.

I'm at six thousand miles on mine, and added my third gallon. Just did a PM, with regular dynosaur oil, hoping the fresh oil helps.

Sure hope the rings are seating.......

I had my ISX Rebuilt here about year ago. To this day still does not use one drop of oil between changes.

    I'm sure, because I did overhaul on my 1999 Detroit 60 12.7
after the overhaul, I did my first oil change 5K after, second on 10K miles, and then by now I'm doing at 13K
and I'm telling you, taking oil like crazy first 10-15K, then this oil consumption disappear
you have nothing to worry about, trust me

How much oil it uses per week depends on how many miles per week and the quality of the parts. If they were genuine Detroit parts and the work was done correctly, you should not be using that much oil. Aftermarket parts may require a longer break in. The last S60 I in-framed used about a gallon it's 1st 10,000 miles, when I did the initial oil change. After than it only uses about a gallon every 15,000 mile oil change and has a little over 200,000 on it now. A quality hone and rings are pretty much broken in out of the box these days. Cheaper aftermarket parts may still do things the old school way, course hone, hard rings and a long break in time.
