I'm pretty sure it requires some movement and usually a good, or poorly banked curve at a rate of speed that isn't right! -
The way some of the yard dogs fly through the lots at shippers and crank trailers as hard as they can at mach speed to setup for backing, I wouldn't be surprised if they dump quite a few.Rogerthat and otherhalftw Thank this. -

Courtney here picked up a load from a military base wont say which one. BOL said office furniture. The doors were sealed and a weight ticket was supplied. Next day I am coming over the mountains, on a steep grade the whole truck shook. Pulled over to find something had shifted and bent the top and took off the top latches of the doors. Called my dispatch was told to sit there and not move like I was going to continue with a damage set of back doors. About an hour later up comes a state trooper, then another. They escorted me to the next scale, scale guy looks at the doors wants to give me an insecure load ticket. Trooper tell him he cant sealed military load. Had to sit there backed up against the side of the building until the army got there to fix it. Dont know what it was green boxes, big ones.

Before air ride suspension nearly every load shifted, the continual vibration from the road would shift the load to the lowest portion of the trailer. If the front of the trailer was an inch lower than the rear then everything moved toward the front, if the rear of the trailer was an inch lower then everything shifted to the rear, but then as mentioned above, hard braking or curves, railroad tracks while braking, all would move the freight to the direction of least resistance. If you load freight against the nose and keep it tight throughout the load you can secure the rear of the load and keep it in place. If you can't load against the nose or against other freight, then blocking is needed. If you will let it move an inch it will pickup momentum, the more it moves the more force it takes to stop it. As mentioned earlier the totes will move around even without much help, blocking needed if loaded down the center.
