Dont sign a contract with ANY carrier. there are tons of companies out there willing to give a newbie a fair chance without asking for you to sign your life away. AND some of those same companies let you put inverters of various sizes on their trucks. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH.
patience and tolerance and vital traits in this industry.
    good luck

I work for Schneider. A mechanic at the Indianapolis terminal said we could have up to a 300 watt inverter. There's 4 plugs for inverters. You can't have a refrigerator, but you can have an electric cooler. Everything else you want should be able to work on a 300 watt inverter.

Training you don't team drive, your trainer is in the passenger seat, you sleep at the same time. If you get a trainer of opposite sex, you get a motel. It's not like you sleep in the same bed. It's only 1-3 weeks.

The biggest thing with you is paying thousands in tuition for a shorter-term career. It doesn't seem like a great investment given you'll only drive 2 years. But you have to do something, right?

I think it'll be easier for you given you have a class B. If you're not committed to driving class A, and it's not a long term deal anyway, why not just find a class B job?

I also wonder how you'll feel about home time. It's a big adjustment.

Don't listen to him. They don't expect you to learn shifting and all that in one day. By the end of school they expect you to have a basic understanding and the bigger thing is to show improvement, willingness, and the big key: to show that you can recover when you miss a gear and not panic and fall to pieces. Everyone makes mistakes, show that you can get through them and move on.

What bothers me is when people come onto this board and ask the same question... "What's the best company" or what really bothered me with this guy is that he says he one part that he doesn't mind being with a trainer but then later on in his post it sounds like he does. What's the deal?

I will agree that it does take longer than one day to master shifting. I'll back off on that point. But, HLaird, can you not pick up on the attitude of " I Think I Am Special "?

Can't Anyone Else Hear This? (besides marinedriver and roaddog)

As for the inverter issue, they make fridges, TV's, GPS, & laptops with a car plug already... so if you must have your luxaries you just need to spend a little $ to get the right ones. I really hope you weren't planning on a desktop computer cause I actually tried that once and believe you me it doesnt work out well.

If you can't accept that you are a newb and you will have to do the same crap everyone else had to myself included, then you just will have to find another career.

Did you not do ANY research before you made the decision to give truck driving a try? Did you actually think that Schneider would just hand you the keys right after school? You make it sound like going out with a trainer is a complete surprise to you. If you're not sure that you're going to like it, you better find something else to do for 2 years. One more thing, if the reason you were blackballed from rigging for 2 years is that bad, you don't want to mention it here, did you even tell Schneider about it? Because they will or should do a check on your work history, and you just might be wasting their time.

Get a job driving a bus. Paying big money to learn how to drive rigs is an idiotic move, even moreso if you're planning on staying in for only a short time. You already have the class-B, so put it to work.
