You can start now and just state your availability date. But is that all you're going to do is send apps? Do you have any goals or comapanies that you would want to work for? Have you made a list of want your needs are? It may be a desperate world out there but why take the easy way? You know recruiters will steer you in a direction and a lot of the bottom feeders will take you. But if it were me I'd try for the best and work down. The best that fits me. Make youself a couple of lists. One for what you want and another for your goals and whee you expect to be some time from now. Don't go in blind because chances are you'll end up at crummy job and then you'll want out.
OK, Heres probably a dumb one:

Gashauler,
I have a "short" list of co's in mind. The selection was based on:
- distance from my home to terminal
- safety record
- cpm
- and other research(like this forum)

Make sure that you are talking to people and not just aimlessly shooting out applications. Yes you will get hired no matter what by one of the mega-carriers. They will take anybody. However, if you do your homework and put some effort into it you will find a good smaller company willing to take you on. Make a list of your wants and needs and start checking out some good mom and pop companies websites. You may want to check Craigslist too. Sometimes there are owner operators on there looking to train and take on a student. Here is another site that may help you too:

Don't just jump into it and take the first few offers. They will not be worth it!
Good luck to you!
GasHauler Thanks this.
