ok... i just got fired. Dont know if any of you remember me but I posted a thread about getting started with swift (the company ya all hate) I liked it well enough, it wasnt perfect but I am easy and can overlook things till i put in the appropriate time.
I was under a high security load last week and somehow missed their policy of no going home. I was so busy reading all the rules from the shipper that I overlooked the rules that were attached to the load assign. They are very strict about this since a person can be hauling thousands of dollars worth of equipment. I got fired for it, no warning or anything.
I only have three months experience at this point. I have gotten used to the size of the truck and am a pretty careful driver. My backing is pretty good. I do have two preventables, a scratch from a right hand turn and a dent on a customers door. That was at the end of my training and when i was first turned loose.
I am concerned about the economy and the fact that I was fired.
Since you all are experienced do ya think anyone will hire me?
Susan

If they hit your DAC with the "fired". It will reflect a security/safety risk. Never mind that nothing "happened".
You're going to have issues with that at larger companies, more so than the preventables.
You might check into smaller and more localized companies. -
Do you recall anyone mentioning that the actual DRIVING of a Big truck is only a DROP in the bucket of things you
NEED to know how to do?
Why didn't you clear stopping at the home-20 with your dispatcher BEFORE you stopped?
I think most, or at least many, truckin' companies are gonna pay MORE attention to you stopping at home while under a high-value load.
What WERE you thinkin'???
Or not?
I think your goose is cooked in the Big truck truckin' industry.
That was a BIG mistake ---- even for a SWIFT driver.

Sorry.

If I were you I'd go for a local construction company or any other smaller company. This is one of the reasons I don't like swift because a door scratch is considered a preventable accident. You've got many hurdles to overcome and it's not going to be easy. It's not impossible but you're going to have a harder time than most and you'll be looking for awhile unless you get lucky. Good luck anyway.

I dunno, aftershock. I saw stuff about teams but nothing about solo's. I followed the half tank fuel, enough hours, no stopping within 200 mi., it was all on the qualcom but i was looking at the shippers rules. For some reason I was thinking that since I was over 200 mi. away it would be ok to stop at home since it was right on the way.
Even tho you guys say no go, I'm still going to try to find another driving job. I'm just learning for cryin out loud. And my driving had improved tremendously. It had gotten to the point where it wasnt even that hard anymore. -
I don't think anybody is saying 'don't try'. I, myself, am all for it - you've learned a heck of a lesson here. But odds are tremendously against you now - rookie or not, this is one of those bad things that can just screw you into the ground.
Be prepared for your next job to be .. less than desirable. OTR may be right the heck out of the picture. You may well end up local construction for a year or three.
The DAC doesn't matter - keep in mind, by law, your new employer has to get a job history - and has to contact all employers who you worked for in the past 3 years. They are required to ask (and the ex-employer has to tell them) about any safety AND SECURITY issues you were involved in. (FMCSR 391.23). If they don't DAC, they're supposed to go straight to the employer (I'm not sure, but they may have to do that anyway.. nothing in the FMCSR about 3rd party databases - see FMCSR 391.23(c)(2)) -
how could he do any worse than swift???
check craigslist and your local paper for OOs looking for a codriver. there are also small companies that may hire you. I found a local company that was going to hire me with only 3 weeks of "experience." but I didn't want to work 14 hours a day delivering lumber (even though I would have been home each day.) also, as it has been said, a lot of companies don't mess with DAC because they know the bullpoo that involves.
I may be getting a local job soon working a 3 day week making about as much as I was in my last regional job working 6-7 days a week only getting 1200 miles a week. you can have this OTR junk. -
C.R. England.
So, are you saying you're still workin' for peanutz, just workin' fewer days to get it?
If so, it sounds like you're more interested in gettin' OUT of work.
And why do you refer to OTR drivin' as "junk"?
Just because YOU don't like it, or, for whatever reason, can't handle that program, sure doesn't make it "junk" for EVERYone.
Ya reckon.

Honestly I doubt you will have much of a problem finding another company. Call USA or Pam they might take you. A buddy of mine rolled his truck at Swift and USA took him. The thing is you only have three months of experience. If you get hired you will have to go out with a trainer again. You won't know anything until you start making phone calls. Good luck to you and don't take any more high value loads home.
