My garmin 465T does the run around scale function. When the scale warning pops up, you change the screen and hit detour. Takes you around them all the time.
What are you hauling that you do not know your weight? If you are over 80,000 adjusting your tandems will not lower the weight it will just move the load off one axle and on to the others. That is why you move the wheels up a notch. If you are over 80,000 you will be fined by DOT if caught. Running around the scales, you are very unlikely to get caught. The fine increase by the amount you are over. 90,000 pounds is a lot more expensive then 81,000. If you are hauling something like computers or televisions, I might be able to help you unload.....afterall, I am a felon.
Ok if im close to over 80,000 ....

Most places I go I scale and get the gross. I would love to have a scale installed on my trailer if I become an o/o and buy one. That'd be great

The DAT app will do the same for you finding scales and gives you amenities at the truck stops. It's biggest advantage in my book is that it is free! Some of the better shippers have scales on their facilities.

never go into a shipper with an empty fuel tank either
bud plants weigh you coming in and out fort collins if you scale out at less then 77000
they put more product on youMidnight Mike Thanks this. -
but let me guess. you can tell when your 500 lbs over gross. even though both gauges read just fine.
i use dat truck stop. it's totally free and does everything dirtydiesels app does. truckstops. scales, washes. rest areas. and walmarts. and even fuel prices.
i also use droidtruckerstop. also free. and tells you where ALL weigh stations are. not just the red dots found in the atlas. and also the major truckstop chains. -
DAT and Trucker Tools... another free app.

You are legal to drive to the nearest scale from the shipper and not liable for overweight fines. You must go to the nearest scale, no matter the distance and even if it is the opposite direction of the route!
From what I understand, experts correct me if I am wrong, if a state/DOT scale is the closest you can go weigh there. If over tell them they were the closest scale (that you are aware of) and you will go straight back to the shipper to fix the load. No harm, no foul!
As stated ask other drivers and the shipping department. Sometimes there are private company scales closer than a CAT scale. They may not be certified, but having paperwork that you did scale before driving long distances can't hurt! often shipping will have the nearest scale posted right where you sign for the bills.

As mentioned earlier, look at the load and get the centerline, rear tandem axle, under the back edge, but if you can't, move your tandems back to the (front pin) 10 hole on a Wabash trailer. Hopefully the forklift driver knows how to load but don't count on it.
Sometimes #44k plus loads that take you close to gross simply cannot be scaled to fall within the 12k-34k-34k ideal and need to be reworked. The last thing you want is to drive 45 miles to the closest scales and back. Most shippers who load heavy, paper mills, big box dc, etc, have scales. You are responsible for your equipment and both how and how much freight is loaded. Don't let a shipper bully you into driving away overweight or unscaleable.
The location of permanent weigh stations are noted in your Rand McNally Motor Carriers Atlas (red dot with a pointer line as well as the notes for each state). You do have one of those, right?
