My 1st driving experience was NM-CO mountains in a B Model Mack, no Jake and no AC with a 5 X 3 Transmission and so noisy you could'nt hear a radio, not that we had them anyway. 13 MPH up and 20 down. Quit worrying about going down mountains.

This is so scary I had to respond before I could go to sleep.
    You are a student.
You should not be allowed to go over the Rockies yet. Unless you are with your trainer, your company has a policy to DISALLOW you from going west on I-70 in Denver. Rain or shine, sleet or wind, makes no difference.
Until you have been a driver for about 2 or 3 years, GO SOUTH when you get to Denver.

***Read xii percent's post. We just came from Long Island a couple weeks ago to Los Angeles and those #'s in his post are the roads we traveled on. You should be on I-40 by the time you make OKC.
I-40 ends in the Mojave desert in CA, and becomes 15. Read your map and figure out from there.

    Good Luck.

I was thinking 70. But Wyoming has been interesting this year to say the least.

Your not going to see anything out west on the 40 that is any worse than what you will see on the 81/40 in Virginia and Tennessee.

If you are truly that concerned about mountains ... take the 95 to Jacksonville and turn right onto the 10.

I like that 54-61-50 drive. Decent country roads and you get to drive right by Dorothy's house.

The funny thing about Dorothy's house is that it's in Liberal, KS. When I drove through there during the last election all I saw were Republican signs. Not many liberals in Liberal.

Big Don and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this.
