Is this possible?
1. Get my CDL at the local SAGE school
2. Start a corporation for my O/O business
3. Buy a new truck and trailer
4. Hire an experienced driver to help me get started for a month or two?
5. Drive for at least a couple of years just because the idea always appealed to me and I like the idea of having my own new truck that I can fix up however I want?
Would it be easy to get loads with little experience and/or are there other things that would prevent somebody from doing it this way?

Get your cdl and get a job at a smaller company that pays on percentage. Then in one year look back ln this thread and say what was I thinking.

So you want to hinge your financial well being, as well as perhaps even your life on your decision to hire an experienced driver?
Have you thought about what kind of "experienced driver" would be interested in being hiring by some unknown person that just bought a truck and has no experience in the trucking business?
I would not even suggest buying a truck, find an owner operator that would be willing to take on a co-driver for a few months, and see if you can handle it. If not, nothing lost but your time. If it agrees with you, then think about buying, and with your minimal experience think about what company and kind of freight you want to get in to.Rockin&Rollin Thanks this. -
You'll get taken advantage of by some low life driver. They're a dime a dozen. No quality, smart company driver is going to take this risk because they know how fierce the competition is on loadboard "spot market" freight. You don't have a clue about anything. There is plenty of cheap freight that will not cover your costs and make you go broke in a hurry. The good freight is very difficult to find and sometimes it might even be offered up at a decent, lower rate than it should have but you'd never even have an idea that it likely had money behind it and would pay more. Said it a thousand times will say again. There is no quick easy way. The ones who try that always fail. Even experienced company drivers try and the failure rate is still high. Get some seat time in a company truck for a few years and learn about freight. You don't even know how to drive a truck yet and you're wanting to get into such as this. Don't even know if you like trucking. Want a big truck with lights and chrome... Crazy....

Lets say having my own truck is important and Im willing to buy that and whatever kind of trailer new or close, but completely under warranty whatever the case, and then sell it in a few years if I decide to not continue driving.
I can pretty much write off my losses on depreciation on the truck etc
I know there is a lot to learn (a lot of which could likely be answered here quickly), are there such things as dedicated long-term runs you can sign on for that would limit what you would need to know when getting started? -
Write off your losses on depreciation? In three years you will have used up all your depreciation, sale the equipment and you will be paying a gain. So if you some how make it three years and quit you will be so far in the hole that you can't see the light to climb out.

BTW: Its not about chrome and lights here, its just that I like my own things where feasible, especially if I will be spending a lot of time in it like with this case.
It is about taking the ride, a certain kind of freedom I aspire to at least apprentice in, while not worried about getting rich. Now losses are another story though lol -
