In many professions there is symbolism in tattoos. Rights of passage if you will. Marks of accomplishment. Like in the navy, dragons on your uniform meant a west pack cruise, shellback you crossed the equator. What are the traditions and tattoos of the long haul trucking world, linked to our industries past. And what do they mean?

Not sure there are "traditional" trucker tattoos. I have 10-4 on my right hand knuckles...also "Gear Jammer" on the palm of my shift hand...but as for symbolic tattoos not too many I have seen out here...a lot of Yosemite Sams, Peterbilt logos...

Get a C.R. England tattoo on your arm to match the one you see on their trailer. That way everyone knows you are a bad ###

You're supposed to lay a different chick in every town.

Or you can take your chick with you and lay the same chick in every town.

I choose to do it my way and lay different chicks in the same town.

I've never seen this question here before. An interesting one though.

Problem is, what you're asking is very subjective, as opposed to the military. Different things have different meanings to different people as far as whether or not they're even noteworthy in some cases.

So as far as any type of industry standard or unwritten rule, I've certainly never heard of one.

The real trucker tattoo is the Zig-Zag man on one arm and on the other arm a picture of Nancy Reagan with the words,"Just Say Yes"

There used to be a biker bar across the street from Sysco in Holly Hill, FL and it could be a rough place at times. A friend who at one time was a professional tattooist and sometimes gave tattoos in the bar, gave a guy an eagle tattoo on his arm while both were a little high. When the guy stood up and let his arm hang straight down, the eagle was lopsided. The guy wanted his money returned, so my friend said, "Here's all you're going to get" and gave the guy a good whuppin' right there in the bar. The guy quickly limped out of there and left. That's one place you didn't mess around unless you knew the patrons.

Hey thanks for answering my question, maybe instead of that particular question, how bout thus one. are there traditional tattoos in our industry, I guess the mudflats girl would be one but I'm looking for something a little more significant because after all sorts of jobs, I've finally found my place in trucking, and I'd like to put a stamp on that this may, which will mark 3 years of hard work and my dedication to a lifetime of living on the road.
