It wasn't tattoos, it was your handle. It was at the top of the drivers door on your truck. Back in the day, a trucker was known by everyone everywhere by his handle. Even the wives called them by their handle. Lots of the guys came in straight out of the military with tats, but they were known by the handle they were given in the military. If you got into the business without a handle, the old hands would give you one and that's what you were stuck with.
Closest thing to a trucker tat was the phrase on the back of the sleeper.
