I am talking to a Maverick recruiter about joining their fine organization. One thing I did not ask the recruiter; I have long hair (yes, I am a dude). If you are familiar with Shawn Michaels from WWE wrestling, or Triple H before he shaved all his off, it's about like that. I have the sneaky suspicion that this will need to go bye-bye before I go to orientation, if an offer for said orientation is extended. Not a big deal to get it cut, just decided in 1996 to stop cutting it except for a small trim every few months. Can you all shower me with your wisdom about Maverick and hippies please?

Not sure it really makes any difference, then again...

Never cut your hair, if you like it, over a job.

I was hired by A&R Transport years ago, and went through 2 weeks of training. Then I started rolling solo for about a month. Then I went to Joilet, IL. for "extended training". When I got to Joliet, the guy running the show told me I had to cut my hair, or go home. I didn't want to lose my job, so I cut my hair.

Fast forward to 8 months later......Had an incident with one of the corporate idiots from Joliet, while he was out in Philly. He comes along, while we are loading a trailer, and opened the wrong valve on my trailer. This created a huge mess. Then he walks away like nothing happened. I had to spend 4 hours of **MY** time, to clean up **HIS** mess. The next day, I was about 30 minutes late for my delivery. I very politely explained I was late, due to the fact I had to clean up after "Chuck the Schmuck". I was fired the next day, for talking back to my dispatcher.

So in the long run, I gave up a good head of hair, which a woman I was involved with loved, just to lose the job later on.

Get yourself a pack of hair ties, and keep your hair neatly tied back when at work. If that is not good enough for them, screw them! Find another place, that isn't so worried about your hair.

I don't know for a fact, but I really don't think Maverick cares about your hair, as long as it is safely controlled in the workplace, and you general appearance is acceptable.

If you Google the phrase "I'm not Mick Foley" my video on Youtube should be the 1st or 2nd item on the list. Check it out, and you'll understand I know all about having long hair.

I use to watch wrestling till I found out its all an act so I don't know who Shawn Michaels is.But if you like your hair leave it long and look elsewhere. Many companies do not care as long as you don't look like a shaggy sheepdog.Ive seen many guys with long haired trk drivers.Don't let one employer influence your mind to cut your hair. You cut it ONLY IF YOU WANT IT CUT.Not because its their requirement.

If I could, let me make one point very clear:

I hate having long hair, but my smoking-hot wife, who is 11 years younger than me, loves it. If you are single, and take good care of it, the women love it. When I say "care", I mean using good quality products, and using conditioner. If you have good looking, long, healthy hair, you will find more women who like it, than who don't. Don't throw away the secret power of the "Woman Magnet", because some job wanted you to.

If you are invited to orientation, either tie your hair back in a ponytail or something like that, and go in well groomed, dressed, and clean. We have guys have have long hair, and guys that have beards that would put the Duck Dynasty guys to shame. It's all fine with Maverick as long as you are clean and professional in appearance.

Definitely find a method to tie back your hair though, or you will really regret it when it gets caught in one of the chains while training in the barn. And it's REALLY funny when guys don't listen to the instructor and that happens :)

I'm going hazmat/bulk/tanker, so at some point the goatee will have to go.

I'll miss it, but one is worth more than the other... so it's swapped for the greenbacks.

    Besides, it'll grow back.

Thanks fellow hippies. I do love having what my wife refers to as my "sexy Mane". I would rather keep my hair, as I feel look I like an awful doofus with short hair. I think it all goes back to the Army. You know, short hair and all. I keep my hair washed and neat and always pull it back in a ponytail. I feel I am rather presentable looking overall, and I personally feel like it does not matter how long my hair is, it just matters how I do my job. Truck n tech, I hear you bro. I have a wife and she likes it just fine. Pattyj I only watch wrestling for the stuff that goes on in between the matches. But, I submit to you, EVERYTHING on tv is fake. That's the answer I give whenever someone says it's fake, like I don't know that. I really don't think Ice t is a sex crimes cop in Ny, lol.

Many thanks my soon to be bros and sis;s and whatnot!

Why are you afraid to ask the recruiter? Just call back and ask if they allow long hair and when they respond say "thank you" and hang up. You don't even have to identify yourself I bet they get so many calls they won't even know its you if that is why you don't want to ask.
