PO is definitely a more laid back option. I ran some PO last week while my trailer was in the shop. Picked up a pre-loaded stepdeck of pipe going to yellowstone, and would have had a 400 mile deadhead to some new empty doubles in SLC if I would have waited the 4 days for them to be ready. The round would have paid $9100 on 4300 miles, home to home, but it would have taken 12 days a round. I went ahead and bounced home to Michigan because my trailer was ready, but it would not have been a bad gig at all if I were in it for the sight seeing and fishing (got a bit of that done, but not 4 days worth).

Bob tailing really gets your MPG averages up if you keep your foot out of it, too. Did 10.5mpg all the way home.

    48Packard Thanks this.

Reviving this. Not sure where the .90 + FSC came from, but run rates are based on length of haul, with shorter runs paying better. And detention is pretty decent when delayed at customer. Just picked up $586 for sitting overnight at Kelloggs in Battle Creek, MI on a load. $836 I will pick up from Conagra next week on a major delay a few weeks ago. Rates vary for me between $1.02 at the low for the real long runs to $1.18 for the high on runs 250 miles or less with a minimum $150 guaranteed. FSC on top of that. $75 for first additional stop, and $100 for each after that. And fuel discounts generally have been 20-30 cents off the cash pump price on fuel, with extremes over 50 cents off from time to time. I recently bought 4 wide based Michelin Xones and 2 Michelin XZA3+ steer tires thru FCC's national account. Total was $5267 which includes FET and sales tax. The only mandatory thing I get hit for by the carrier is $10 a week for the qualcomm. No deposit and no installation fee.

I broke $200K in revenue last year. By the house once or twice a week, home every weekend, about 2 weeks off, and every full holiday weekend off. Rarely ever sit waiting between loads, usually booked 1 to 2 loads in advanced. I generally only do loads that keep me within 500-600 miles from the house.

yeah, it is a real bottom feeder outfit.
