The legal minimum backing test was a joke here in NC. You could easily pass the school and flunk putting the trailer between two other trailers in a normal yard. All we had to do was drop our tandems in a box and it didn't even have to be straight. Then in orientation you have to do normal yard backing.
Ok so I flunked out of orientation, does this mean that no 1 else will hire me?

The fact of the matter is they are looking for more training. Prime inc is a one on one program the does not let you test until the instructor and the student feel ready. I am an instructor and trainer. I have been doing this for a little while. The worst thing you can do is not ask for additional instruction. Prime inc will help you if you ask.
Good luck!flyspy and silenteagle Thank this. -

If backing is your only problem, go flatbedding. Really, the only time you will be backing is when you cant find an alternative to it at a truckstop.

Update: I was at Roadmaster today putting in a little pad time before I had to go to my part time job. I was able to put it in the hole quite a few times without trouble. I used the techniques I learned at Schneider and it wasn't too hard. The hole in Atlanta is a bit smaller so my goal now is to make the trailer hug the left side of the hole, that way I figure that if I have room on the left I'll definitely have it on the right in any case. The two training scenarios aren't a perfect match but the way I figure it, no two alley docks are going to be the same.

Let me reqhrase: If I am hugging the left side tight I know I have room on the right hand side no matter how small the hole is.

Not always that's why you have to get out and look, and when you have your doors open that makes the hole that much harder to get in. You can also rip off your right side trailer door if you are not paying attention.

I was referring more towards passing the test at Schneider than I was anything else. Their company policy is that you get out and look before sending the trailer into the hole anyway.

I get what you mean though. I have already seen how in real life no two alley docks are the same.
