I'm 0 for 1 because the one trucking school graduate they gave me was such a poor excuse for a driver I told them to NEVER put another inexperienced driver in my truck . The dummy put my truck in a ditch while I was getting paperwork signed AFTER I told him not to drive the rst of the day .
I went to the school and blasted them for turning that idiot loose on the public . They admitted he needed "several attempts" to pass certain segments of training . You don't get several attempts in the real world .

Now Rick, you brought this all on yourself! You should have had the foresight to handcuff the idiot before you got out of the truck. It's permitted by 49 CFR 692.23(a)(1)(subparagraph m - "Your responsibility, as a trainer, is to protect the public using every means at your disposal").

I think the effects of a taser would have been sufficient for my brief absence . :biggrin_2559:

Or the one that I "tried to train" who claimed to be the world's gift to blind side backing. Claimed that he was better at blindsiding than backing in the left side. Told him that nobody blindsided back a truck unless there simply wasn't any other option ... especially a newbie. He took issue with that and carped on it ... seems like forever ... telling me he was gonna show me something I had never seen before.

It was two days before Christmas and freight was down with most of the stores already full and not much moving. Coming back to the right coast from El Paso. I Had to get some sleep and told him to pull into the Petro at Weatherford fuel the truck up and wake me up and I would run it through Dallas and then let him have it to finish up his 10 hours.

He pulls into the Petro, fuels the truck up and decides that he is gonna get something to eat at the Iron Skillet and wake me up with a cup of Joe. Like I said ... it was Christmas ... freight was down ... there wasn't 10 trucks in that 40 acre parking lot and he decides he is gonna blindside back into a spot beside a kitty whopper. And to show everyone in the parking lot how well he can handle a rig he does t on the high side of reverse and darn near full throttle. He hit that KW so hard it moved the front steering axle on the KW over 2 feet while it was parked, brakes locked down and fully loaded.

He wakes me up and shakes me yelling "John oh my God ... I just hit a truck!" I yelled back,"you gotta be s------- me!" He says "Yeah ... please get up ... I don't know what to do ... I'm scared" Gotta tell ya ... that was a slow rise for me as I pulled outta the sleeper berth wiping the sleep from my eyes. I got out of the truck and looked at my trailer and he had swiped a 14 foot gash in the side of my wagon. I said,"well ... I guess you were right ... you HAVE showed me something I ain't never seen before ... why didn't you stop when you hit him? how could you keep going for an additional 14 feet"

About that time, the other driver slowly opens the door. I look around for a tire iron cause I just know that this guy is gonna wanna kill both of us ... I would ... if I had been in his position! But no ... no ... this is an old seasoned professional driver ... as humble and soft spoken as you've ever seen in your life. He walks up to my trainee and says "ya know ... I see yalls trucks all over he road ... going here and going there and I know you folks run awful hard ... and I know that this little incident probably don't mean very much to you but I'd like to tell you a few things about myself. I'm 56 years old and I been driving since I was 'knee high to a grasshopper' and I been working for the 'other man' all my life ( and I thought I seen a tear come into his eye) ... then about 3 months ago I decided to start my own company and this here is MY truck and it only has about 1500 miles on it and I just picked this trailer up yesterday in El Paso 'brand spanking new' and I was gonna haul my first load in it up to my first customer ... and now my new truck is tore up. I don't understand why you did what you did ... I mean there is 40 acres to park in here and there ain't 10 trucks in this place" ... his voice kinda trailer off and he just stared at the ground and kept shaking his head saying "I just don't understand ... this is all I have in the world" as he looked at the skid marks where my trainee had mover his steering axle over a full 24 inches from a parked position. I put my hand on his shoulder and a tear did come to my eyes and I smiled at him and said, "Don't worry ... you don't have to kill my trainee ... nope it's all take care of pardner ... don't worry your grey head no more ... cause I'M GONNA KILL HIM." He ain't worth the powder it would take to blow him to he-- ... but I can promise you that he won't have a job when he gets back and he may never drive another truck again. Spent the next few days sitting down with insurance adjusters and law enforcement filling out incident reports and missing Christmas with my kids ... wondering ... where are all the tasers when you really need one???
