Eh, so I can find patterns a little more quickly than most people, and figure out the square of the hypotenuse without a slide rule...doesn't make me any better than anybody else, I still put my pants on one leg at a time just like every other dude :)

It could explain why I'm drawn to the Church of the Subgenius though - Hail "Bob"!! :biggrin_2559:

I prefer to think of it as "passionately nettlesome" ;-)

LOL! Haven't heard anyone talk about Bob since 1970-something. A good friend of mine actually got ordained.

I have read through this thread. I am even considering crete as a prospective employer. You guys that are O/O leased to crete--if something happens, can you take your truck and go independent or lease on with someone else--or would you lose your truck if you went somewhere else? Can you get your truck through someone like Arrow and lease on with Crete? Just trying to get info is all, not trying to get or start an argument. Thanks.

You can purchase a truck elsewhere and lease on with Crete.

Contract states that if you use Crete's bank to finance a truck it must be leased to either Crete,Shaffer,or Hunt (flatbed division).

More evidence of my sharecropper comment. If you are gonna go O/O, go to a bank, get your own financing, so you can call your own shots. Find a carrier that wants an INDEPENDENT contractor. Paper logs, preferably no qualcomm, definitely one that doesn't tell you how fast you can drive your truck, and enjoy the freedom!

So, if something went wrong, and you had leased the truck through Crete, if you leave, they keep the truck? Is that correct? I have read Jd's posts and Evertruckers thread about Crete and find it quite interesting. I can't find too much negative about Crete.

Guess you have a hard time with reading comprehension.

"Contract states that if you use Crete's bank to finance a truck it must be leased to either Crete,Shaffer,or Hunt (flatbed division)." Notice the word in red?

Plus you seemed to have missed the very first sentence in that post......."You can purchase a truck elsewhere and lease on with Crete."
Anyone is certainly free to move their truck away from Crete at anytime they so chose, "IF" it is not financed thru Crete's subsidiary bank.

As to the paperless logs and Qcomm comment; we have covered this before, but again you seem to have a hard time with comprehension. But for the sake of new readers, and your leaky brain I will restate my position. If anyone is driving a truck with an ECM, or has a cell phone in the truck while they are driving, it is almost the same as having a Qcomm or any other tracking device. I say almost because while an ECM or cell phone can't give information to an officer during a roadside inspection, it CAN and WILL give the neseccary information to a smart lawyer in the event of an injury accident. Is the ability to fudge your logbook during a roadside inspection worth a few extra thousand dollars a year if you are envolved in an accident; even one not your fault? Not anymore!

Concerning how fast I can drive my truck. It is true Crete has a policy that 65mph is the top speed. However, If I choose to drive faster I can, but if I am involved in an accident while doing so they will not pay the claim or defend me if nesseccary. BUT, it is a moot point for me as I drive much slower than 65mph inorder to conserve the fuel I pay for. And here's a shocker....I'd drive slow even if I was a INDEPENDENT.

Do I give up a certain amount of freedom when it comes to being dispatched? Yes. Do I have to worry if the broker or shipper is going to pay their bill? Do I have to spend any time looking for or booking loads and hope they hold up? No. Do I have to worry about filing IFTA Reports? No. Do I pay the cash price at the pump for fuel, tires, or parts? No. Am I going to get rich driving a truck (company or O/O)? No.
