Hey now, were always number 1 or 2 in giving to charity and other worthwhile causes...not to bad for one of the poorest states in the nation.
Okay Swift, if you'll have me, I'll give it a shot!!

I too am considering Swift as the "Path of least resistance", even though they don't allow pets anymore, something I find odd. On that note, does anyone know -why- they don't? The recruiter I spoke to couldn't tell me, because he didn't know anything other than that he was told to tell 'newbies' that animals were not acceptable anymore, except for those who had been with the company, and had pets before the rule changed.
I need to call them back reasonably soon to ask a few more questions, since the school, while closer than any of the others I have looked into, is still a little ways away, so I would end up staying in a hotel. With that in mind, I need to figure out how to feed myself while in school.. I could survive on Ramen I suppose, but.. ew, and not exactly brain food. Ask most college students
Still looking into other companies, and considering my location, I would -think- there would be quite a few more than I've found, but I seem to be having rather poor luck. That, or there are a lot of trucking -companies- in the area, just not schools. Can't figure out which one it is right now.
After years of researching, searching, and figuring out whether or not this is the right path for me, I've come to the conclusion (Sad as it may be), that for a 'newbie', even one with a clean record, now days it's almost unavoidable to start out with a 'less than desirable' company, unless you can afford your own schooling, which at $800 a month I obviously cannot. I feel lucky if I manage to save anything week to week.JustSonny Thanks this. -
Hey, hey, hey! Quit trying to bring this thread back to topic. We've already hijacked it and our demands have been noted!
To answer your question about pets, my hunch would be that Swift finally had enough of eating the clean-up costs after a driver with a pet(s) quit. Even if one is a responsible pet owner and there's no pet accidents inside the truck, there's still the issue of pet hair and dander getting into the HVAC system. Also, if a driver has an animal with them they are immune to state's anti-idle laws when it's hot or cold. Fuel is a trucking company's biggest expense, and I'm not sure if Swift has APUs on every truck in their fleet or not.
I don't know any of this to be factual, just speculation.
We now bring you back to your regularly scheduled hijacking.simplyred1962 and JustSonny Thank this. -

The next time I hear about a Swift driver that locked his keys in the truck, and had to break a window to get OUT, you will be the first person I think of.
You do know you are not supposed to stop everytime you see someone standing beside the road and take them to school in your big truck. Old habits are hard to break for the aged.
Good luck. I think you picked the best place for you to start out.JustSonny, simplyred1962 and Saddle Tramp Thank this. -

The last time I saw this was the Real Estate Bubble with the Mortgage Brokers. Any one who wanted to create mortgages simply went into the business. Then when the proverbial stuff impacted the rotary air motion device I believe they went into trucking as Drivers, Recruiters, Trainers etc., etc., etc.JustSonny and Saddle Tramp Thank this. -
