ONGB, when you do finally embark on this new journey remember to withhold the values you've learned on here. I'm young, 26 to be exact, and have driven for 7 years now but I told myself when I first started driving that I was going to be the best "professional" I could be, flash your lights when a driver is clear, even if he doesn't give a thank you, don't let it detour you from giving the next guy a flash, answer on the cb when someone is looking for a radio check, although I think 95% of the time I'm talking to open air, keep your volume up on that cb so you're not the one driver hanging out in the right lane of a backup when it's the right lane that's closed, keep your ears open, your eyes wide, and your senses about you. Many will say at the end of the day you're just keeping it between the lines out there, but there's so much more to it than that, waking up at midnight to drive through 7 hours of darkness with nothing but you and your thoughts, this can be an amazing feeling, but at times can be lonely as hell. Anyway, I'm rambling I could say a lot, you never stop learning and don't allow yourself to get content, that's when accidents happen, BOL to you.

Well I don't see why all these people are blowing sunshine up your arse. You're gonna be the laughing stock of the wholdjfuhdueggatttyyhdbdgs

####, that effing steering wheel has learned how to type now!! Took me a while to get the keyboard away from him. Sorry about that.

May 31, 2010. A day that shall live in infamy! A day when one man of a questionable sense of humor can finally live up to the "gonnabe" part of his name.

Whatever you do, don't try to hijack your instructors or trainers (mentors I guess would be the Swift term to use). All you'll do then is..... What was I saying....

You were saying what a low-life piece of garbdhhdyhxjdheytuuidnhdjkfggvvgs

    OUCH!!!

Anyway, best of luck my invisible friend! I know you'll do great and when some maniac comes on the radio saying, "Hey Swift, the steering wheel says howdy!", you'll know who it is.

7 years of experience and 26 years old. Tell ya what, young man, if this industry, or any other industry for that matter, had a majority of folks that think like you think, lots of things would be a whole lot better.:biggrin_25514:

Sure wish you finished training lol. but seriously if you go 48 states instead of 11 or regional you will see more miles and more money, regional might get you home more often but making more money to me is quite important altho its your choice on what you do just be safe have fun and do it to it like pruit used to do it to it.

Precisely what should be standard practice for all drivers, but especially true for the "Professional". This young man (sorry, but I am a sexist dinasour...no offense to the ladies who can be the best out there) is spot on. If you are not ascribing to this code of behavior, you have no business to ever call yourself a professional.

I'm not too concerned about getting home every couple of weeks, every couple of months would probably be okay. Of course, I won't really know how I'll feel until I've actually been out there a couple of months. At first, though, I'll just do whatever is put on my plate. This won't be my first go-round with a new experience in a job but it's #### sure the most uncertain line of work I've ever gotten into. Thanks!
