There are two issues that we can address.
First, the new rules proposed by FMCSA that will limit even further the hours available to us and dictate how we utilize our time. Swift vehemently opposes these new rules and has made it easy for you to voice your opposition to FMCSA. All you have to do is send in a Macro 21 with a "yes" and Swift will file comments on your behalf. These new rules would cut driving/working time to 10 hours within a 13-hour period and require at least a half-hour break within 7 hours of the beginning or end of your work day, making our scheduling even less flexible. In addition, if you are a driver who uses the 34-hour restart, it would require inclusion of two periods between midnight and 6am. That means your 34 may be extended to 48 if you start your 34 at 0600. You would have to sit through two nights regardless of what you have your own schedule set at. You would be most effected if you are someone who prefers night driving.
Again, you can simply take a minute and send in a Macro 21, you can submit comments on the kiosk or you can go online to: swifttrans.com or safedriverhours.com to comment. The more people who oppose this rule making, the better chance they will just leave it alone. Macro 21 only takes a minute.
Second: the eggheads at Swift have decided Macro 23 directions to customers are no longer needed and have disabled it. They want us to use Macro 12 Maptuit directions instead. What's the problem? Macro 23 directions are those given by either the customer or a driver who has been to the customer and will have actual truck routing and detailed directions as to which gate to use and what to do once you are at the customer. You can request directions to both the shipper and consignee with a single message at any point in your trip so you can plan ahead.
Macro 12 Maptuit is basically GPS and has a bad habit of sending us down goat trails, onto restricted routes, through construction areas and even in some cases, miles from where our customer really is. There is no indication of which gate to use, how to contact the customer or where to check in. You can only get directions to your next stop. You can't get all your directions at once.
To comment to Swift on this, use Macro 18, put in your current trip number and stop you're on your way to and tell them you want Macro 23 back. It might take a couple of minutes, but if you don't want to sit there at a customer's gate wondering "what, now?" then help get Macro 23 back. It doesn't cost Swift anything and it won't cost you anything. Macro 18 to comment.
Thanks, y'all and be safe out there.

That said, if they are paying for it, they're going to need to hear from a lot of drivers before they change their minds again. So do as Injun says and send your feedback (on both items)! Tell them to get rid of mac 12, instead. What a stinkin' waste! My home terminal management supports getting it back. That should help, too.Wyldfyur Thanks this. -
Thanks Injun ... MAC 23 is invaluble. I had drop/hook at an unstaffed afterhours location last week. The MAC 23 had all the detailed information. Where to drop the trailer, get the paper work, how to sign out ... etc.
Injun, Wyldfyur, PainNdaNeck and 1 other person Thank this. -
and both those issues either save swift money or would cost swift money. They sent out that message few days ago about the FMCSA hours change, but they make it sound like they are concerned about YOU THE DRIVER. Hhahaha...you really think they care? No...the only reason that was sent out was because it would limit swift, or COST them more to hire more drivers to cover the loss in available hours. Really, 11 in 14 or 10 in 13.....really dont matter to me. Why? Cause i look at my log book and see how many times i've really run up against my 11 and 14. NOT very often. I drive/work about 9 hrs a day on average. Once in a great while, i'll run my tail off, but even then i'll not normally 'work' more than 12 hrs at a pop.
again, swift dont like it, mainly because it will mess with their 'budget'Everett Thanks this. -
Who cares, Dick? This proposed change in HOS is going to cost ME money if it is implemented. It will cost YOU money, too. Use your head and quit trying to pick a fight with Swift, k?
Wyldfyur Thanks this. -
(not trying to kighjack the thread, but........)
MysticHZ, your sig line is so ironic isnt it. After all the successes Ive had in my professional life neither of my parents have ever told me they are proud of me or my accomplishments. I have always made sure to tell my daughter whenever I see her how proud I am of her and to be her mom. -
Injun, not trying to pick a fight, i'm just sayin'. Take a look at your logbook. How often do you run up against your 70 anyway? Actually, i was, till i got to Lancaster, but over the last 7 days, i only have 2 days where i've run/worked 11+ hrs, all the rest of the time i run 7-8 hrs, normally working 9. FMCSA doesn't say 'you have to take a 34'....but you the driver must use your time as best you can. I dont see where one driver is any more profitable running off their 70 in 5-6 days, then taking a 34 hr reset....when compared to a driver who rarely runs into their 70, driving/working 9 hrs a day on average.

I am on rollover hours now and have been for over a week now. I run up against my 70 all the time.

Your comments & opinions about the HOS will only be counted & heard is you file them with the FMCSA yourself. Sending to Swift means that they are going to be deleted as soon as Swift gets them.
If you want to make comments about the HOS rule changes, make them directly to the FMSCA at the following link.
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/topics/hos-proposed/comments.aspx
If you want to read the proposed HOS rules that every one should & must comment on... You can do that at this link.

Yes. It does cost Swift money for every QC message sent. Either it is from the truck or from a terminal computer. They are charged per message.
I also agree with the eggheads. 1nonly & I discussed this yesterday. I think it is a good thing. Why? It puts the responsibility back onto the driver. How old are those directions your getting? Things change. Roads change. Construction change. Shippers & Consignees change their way of doing things that may conflict with what your QC message tells you.
Also, those directions are 3rd party directions. How do you know they are correct? You don't! I think it is best that the driver should call the shipper & consignee to get directions. This way not only do you cut out the middle man directions that may not even be good directions. But you also get the most up to date direction available directly from the source.JustSonny, Blue Screen, Bumpy and 3 others Thank this.
