All right, here goes,
I'm in Claremore OK just north of Tulsa Town. Been lookin into truckin since I got home from the sand box in 2007. Didn't want to leave the door kickin behind but ol' hadji made it pretty hard to stay in. So there goes my dream job down the crapper and here I'm is. I been trying to find a good company to get some trainin and my cdl all in one my income doesn't allow for me to pay it myself. I got three lil ones and a mortgage. So I've got a date to start school paid for by USA truck up in Springfield MO. I've read the bad reviews about them and dang near everybody else on here. But your gonna get that with any company whatever your job is. Someones gonna gripe. I drove for uncle sam in Iraq for a year. We had 915A2 Freightliners. They were automatics but i got some decent basic knowledge in that year and a crap ton o' miles. I make enough now to suck it up at .25 cents a mile and I'm a worker so I'll stay with'm as long as they want to keep me or I get a hell of an offer from someone else. I'm gonna go into this acting like I don't know crap and act like a sponge and just get as much knowledge as possible. My lady and I want to eventually get a rig of our own with a custom sleeper and retire to the road. I like the road, love it actually. Just need some no crap info on USA truck and some solid advice for a newbie. I already know bout them pesky lot lizards, I'll just hold up a picture o' mamma and tell'm looky here honey I got a supermodel with a pornographic mindset and i left here turned on when I left. LMAO thats true as gospel too. Any help or advice would be much apreciated.

Ranger,
1st: If you can do a school without committing to a company (Swift, Werner etc) you'll be better off. As a ex-GI myself, my private school was paid for by the VA. Look into it. Many offer shortened schools for military drivers, since you are already well aware of weights, air loss etc.
2nd: If you have to get the license from a company school, there are many who will take you. They really like ex-GI's (discipline), and your background in Army driving will help.
Pal
USAF retbullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Welcome home from Iraq brother,i did mine in 03.We had the OLD M818's lol,but now since replaced with M915A4's with 5spd Auto Allison's and a older rebuilt Cummins.
Good luck in your search -
(Can't help you out with any personal knowledge of USA, but like you said, EVERY company has negative stuff with it.) -
On a side issue, don't count (finacially) on your OTR trainer releasing you early from his truck. Think of it from his view. He has you for 4-6 weeks depending on the company. If your a slow learning slug, he doesn't get many miles and has to run the truck as a solo. If you are (as I suspect) someone learns very quickly, then he can take longer runs and let you absorb some miles to make more money. Once he trusts you, that is. Or he could release you early and get a slug for the next trainee.... which one do you think most truckers would choose?
Any boss with an "advanced apprentice" will use that person to make more money. It's the nature of all business. And any OTR trainer or experienced trucker will run his rig as a business.
FYI: I now work at Ft Lewis on the Left Behind Equipment program. The bases love to hire Vets, check it out.
PS: My favorite military rig is the Hemmt/PLS combo.... Now you know for certain that I'm insane... -
I run a HEMMT Wrecker, its in my pics...lol..i love that pig

ya you guys are insane, i only drove the 915 for a year then went back to door kickin. would much rather come in on a raid a 3 am then play cat and mouse with hadji and their roadside party favors. lost 3 915's that way. I wouldn't get into a HET in country to save my life watched one get vaporized by a culvert bomb. I'll look into that Ft. Lewis work. Do you know how long that will last? Ya I'm figurin being stuck with a trainer long term lol just hope he's a straight shooter and not a nasty slob who makes me sit outside while he turns himself into a petri dish with the local lot lizards.

OMG the HETS are the worse, all fiberglass bodies...absolutly HUGE,so a nice easy target.Although the trailers were cool haulin the tanks, all 54 wheels turned.Parkin em is a breeze..lol
