My job on base is LBE, and our company (Mantec) has had the contract for 3 years. If the company loses the contract, the next company re-hires the drivers (less training).

Now remember, there are other programs on or around bases that use truckers. AAFES (otr), Motor pool repair, and whatever the base bus driver system is called are 3 that pop into my head immeadiately. Up here we have one company that handles the buses, moving the intermodal cans, DRMO haul off, etc. Once you're a base rat, you establish enough contacts to keep employed in the base system. If this (LBE) falls through, I might end up driving fuel tankers on McChord. This isn't just Ft Lewis (Joint base Lewis/McChord now), but all bases have some versions of this.
