Currently leasing with a carrier but we plan on owning a truck outright by the end of this year.

My SO had authority back in 2009 and lost his business making bad business choices mostly involving putting everything in credit. We're buying our truck outright this time and now know to stay away from credit as much as possible.

This post is about his old authority. We looked it up and it shows still on file but not active and not authorized. Is it possible to just reactivate the old authority and MC# or should we just toss that away forever and start new. Just not sure what would be best. Any help is appreciated.

Yes you can reactivate it and not have to spend the money for a new one.

I just reactivated mine. $80 fee, plus current boc-3, updated mcs-150, and insurance. Can be done online in minutes.

It was earlier than he thought, 2005. It shows we need insurance and shows dismissed under authority history. It sure would help out if we could just reactivate everything, get insurance and run. Guess it won't hurt to try. Next step is gonna be trying to get that pin number. He doesn't think he was ever issued one. It's been so long maybe not.

    Thanks eveeyone!

  7. Dot won't re-instate your numbers if you had an infraction that revoked your authority. As long as you are in good standing and you switched over.

If it wasn't revoked for anything, like for example your insurance was cancelled while your MC was still active you should be able to reactivate it.

I would most definitely reinstate it. Having an older MC like that will only help you, especially in the short term. Brokers tend to not work with mc's newer then 6 months. And are shy about mc's even a year or two old.

He was issued a PIN number, it will be on the letter they sent when he first started that authority. And you will need insurance in place to reinstate.

You can get them to re-issue a new pin - it takes a little while to get but isn't hard.

I would, however, suggest that you do some insurance shopping before you go to far down this road. Without continuous activity, the insurance companies are likely to treat you as a new entrant and will rate accordingly.
