Come apply at Edison/south plainfield location they are hiring. I keep seeing signs for driver referral programs.

Really? Thanks I'll look it up. They never list openings on the website. Edison is just as good as JC from where I am. Do you work there? PM me if you want the referral credit.

I work for a contractor that pulls freight for them. So I guess I work for them but I don't work for them. Lol. Best way to do it is come in person and apply.

Yep, I'm familiar with Jersey City. I don't know much about P&D. I run linehaul runs into Jersey City, and South Plainfield. If you can get on with either one, you'll be glad you did. I know that South Plainfield is slammed with freight. Best thing to do is continue to pester whoever's in charge of hiring. Don't forget Boonton, NJ. Also, depending on how much you wanna commute, you've got Newburg, NY. Go to ODFL's website and search for the service centers. Keep in mind that you could be hired as a bag driver in linehaul, and be out 4 of 5 days, which might make the commute worth it. Of course, if you wanna go P&D and be home every night right away, then the strategy of commuting might not apply. It all depends on what they have available for hire - each terminal has different needs.

Ok thanks for the replies. I'll get on the horn with some terminal managers on Monday, or just pay them a visit. Freight is blowing up around here, every company is looking for drivers. Some of these LTL outfits are training students just to fill seats? Years ago all you heard was stories about how you had to work "casual" for these places, or load trucks at night until they had an opening, and even then you could get laid off a few times before you had enough seniority for a bid. That always prevented me from applying to them in the past, I guess I hadn't looked into it enough. Anyway, I would think they'd like a guy with my experience. Also, I know all the low bridges around here!

mpow66m - Boonton is close to you. YRC has a small terminal in Hibernia also. I don't know if they hire for that location.

mpow do you work out of the terminal in Pine Brook? I think that's the closest Estes terminal to me. Haven't applied to them. I agree, their trucks look pretty beat. I know we don't get cushy trucks working local, but really Internationals are the worst trucks out there. We have some 4400 and 8600's, with Navistar engines. Worst purchases the company ever made. The seats practically give you sciatica, and the engines are in the shop every other week.
