So, gettin ready to start school in September (deposit paid etc.) and gettin paperwork together. My question is regarding a DUI in 2000. It doesn't show on my MVR, my insurance is cheap and good, and my last job as IC delivery for Staples and pharmaceutical company showed me clear for background check etc (for hauling narcotics).
I've been readin that different companies go to different depths as it were when checking records. Is there anybody I should steer clear of with a 10 year old DUI? Or it that far enough that nobody really cares? No felonies blah blah, some misdemeanors of 'youthful indiscretion', but, like I said, b/g came back clean.
Any thoughts?

No you need to be forth coming with all your info. If not it can and will bite you so hard in the butt! You will get hired on and three months later be driving down the road, get a message to come to the terminal and they will send you packin! I have seen it happen so many times. It sucks! DO NOT LIE OR HIDE ANYTHING WHEN FILLING OUT YOUR APP! Most of these mega-carriers have special teams of people whose job it is to just investigate backgrounds. They will find out anything and everything! May take some time but they will I guarantee!
On that note, ten years on a dui should be ok. I think the average is 5-7 years.
Foust Thanks this. -
Thanks, I was planning on telling whoever I applied with because I was brought up that way and have had similar experiences where 'failure to divulge' was as bad as straight lying (not me personally but co-workers). It was just buggin me about not being on my record, but being "on my record".

Agreed, don't try to "hide" anything. It may very well come nibbling on your posterior one day.
For example, at some point you may want to cross-border. Now, I spent many years back and forthing into the US from Canada. I had a DUI waaaaay back when I was 21 (wasn't even a felony back then... the DUI, not being 21). Anyhow, when they ran me up it popped. Was explained to me that the RCMP and the FBI share files. Everything is in that database and it never goes away. Juvie record, expunged charges, pardon.... makes no difference... it's still part of your file.
Now should it pop up and you get in trouble and your employer didn't know??? Almost certain dismissal. -
To the OP...put every conviction you have had as an adult on your application....10 years will suffice....but if you plan on doing Canada...don't hide even a juvenile issue with the Passport application, along with HAZMAT 10 years should be fine. -
Yeh, I don't want to close any doors for myself, so even though I don't really want to do Canada I'll be doing my passport and try getting all the endorsements I can.
Thanks to everybody for the heads-up!...daggone computers sure can take the 'fun' out of youth -
You won't be allowed into Canada with a DUI, if I understand correctly. Maybe if it's not a felony?
