I have had my CDL since 2005 but I only drove for 6 mos OTR. Since then I've been self employed.

Will Swift make me attend their school and sign a contract?

I live near Greer, SC. Can I go flatbed right away?

My credit is not so great but I've got 0 tickets or accidents and in good health.

    thanx

You're going to need a refresher course, whether you pay a driving school or get it from a Carrier.Good luck!

Call them up and talk to them--they will tell you what you need to do. In some cases--they only make you go with a trainer for a bit--just depends on your experience and what it was. I just came out of orientation for Greer and those with non recent experience was made to go with trainer for 2-6 weeks--depending on your situation. They were still doing stuff for flatbeds--so be worth a shot to call them and speak to someone.

Sign a contract? You will not be conscripted to Swift regardless of whether you get a refresher through them or not. If a referesher is required, you get it through Swift and you decide to not work for Swift, you will be expected to pay the bill for the course like any responsible adult. If you work for a while and then find something else, it will be prorated from what you have already paid. They will work with you on it as well.

Hopefully, all you will have to do is go out with a trainer for a while. No cost for that.

and when are you going to start training ?
if i am off much longer i will definately be needing one
seems even if i buy my own truck lots of places want recent exp
unless i drive for a canadian company--then it isnt as crazy about recent exp. thing--but then its a pain in the butt to get back home

I've been off the road for 5 years and Swift will be sending me out with a mentor for a few weeks for a refresher. Call a recruiter and talk with them. If they are working with me I think they would work with you. :biggrin_25519:

I just came out of orientation in Greer, SC--in most cases if you had prior experience even if its not recent--they are assigning mentors for 1-2 weeks. Of course there was and unusual circumstance with one guy from our orientation--he just came out of a truck this past november and I guess he failed part of the road test so they gave him longer with a mentor--not sure of actual time. A few ended up having to do 6 weeks but guess it depends on situation and the experience they can verify. Hope this helps some :)

Ya i wasn't referring to school--sorry if i mislead anyone there. LOL The time with mentor was depending on varied situations. Most of our class was new hires but a few had experience. Even some with experience had to go out longer--depending on their experience i suppose. They got me down for 1-2 weeks--some had to do 3 weeks and a couple had to do the full 240 hours. Most the experienced ones got to do 50-100 hours they say that comes out to 1-2 weeks. Sorry if i worded earlier post wrong :)
