Im not sure how it will affect you, but I am guessing if the company you apply to sends your application through their review board the grand theft part wont sound to good. Alot of companies say the felony has to be 7-10 years old after you get off the papers, but that will still affect you.

i have a felony from 1991 i been driving a truck since 10/00. it depends what the felony is and how old you were "sometimes" i was 17 just turned 18 when i went joy riding in a stolen car. anyway most companies will review it as long as it's not a violent crime or drugs or a dui/dwi they'll consider you with all the other info you gave them. also what kinda punishment you were sentence to like probation or prison time. i did probation for 3 out 5 yrs and got done early because i finish my community service and repaid my restitution. a felony from 1982 shouldn't hurt you to bad but there are a few companies that want hire you if you have a felony but I've work for few carriers in my 9yr career there are quite a few that will hire you. if you have any other question just ask i can give you my best advice. what carriers will consider you and which want.
beware those that want hire either just don't want convicted felon on the books and the other probably require you be able to enter Canada, which you can do as a cdl driver with a felony conviction...personal car... yes, cdl truck driver NO entering Canada with a felony conviction unless you have a minsters permit.

oh yeah someone said the felony must be 7 to 10years old based on what carrier you apply to...that's true.
I've even seen a carrier require as little as no older than 5yrs.

    good luck.

Just be HONEST about it, you can find work driving.

Heck, you're most likely more honest than the person screening applications !!!!

How's everything been since 1982? My guess is that it would be really helpful if you've been "pure as the driven snow" since then. Just a hunch, but I think carriers, in general, are going to be increasingly paranoid when it comes to new hires...at least for a few years anyway.
