Back in the saddle again!!! I'm 66 and even I can still get a driving job.

Now before everyone gets too excited, this job wouldn't be for many. It's part time; out about 4-5 days at a time, twice a month or so.

However, being retired it's EXACTLY what I've been looking for, and it AIN"T with one of the major carriers(yahoo!!!!). Company has only about 15 trucks; but everything maintained VERY well. Anything I make is simply "gravy" (pee-ing away) money.

For one company, here in Colorado at least, things seem to be on an upswing. I get my first load Sat or Sun. Oh, and no QUALCOMM!!!!

While I'm here, had my first DOT phys in over a year. Geez, things seem a lot "harder" now. Vision and hearing test really complete. No more "whisper" test and simple Snellen charts! Is this something new with DOT or was my particular facility just overly cautious??

    Boo

P.S. TRIVIA TEST. What ever happened to the old "Montfort of Colorado" trucks that were all over I70 in the 1970's???

    You betcha!!!! And I've got a wish-list a MILE long!!!!:biggrin_25526:

BTW, if anyone has any tips on shifting an Eaton 18 speed, I'd be happy to hear from you. For example can you change the splitter range without clutching (like a regular float)??

Yes you can :D Just let up off the throttle for a sec, and proceed.

BTW, they haven't done away with the "whisper" test LOL. Guess you got lucky.

Side note: We just had a casual job open up in my area. Company states they want someone who can do 3k miles a week. When they work.

The old "Monfort of Colorado" trucks are now Western Distributing, them pretty blue Petes/KW's. I think they're out of Denver. Their trailers are blue, as well. :biggrin_2552:

Seems like I remember hearing of the "hammer" lane being referred to as the "Monfort" lane years ago. Not sure why.

:yes2557:Yeah, the hammer lane was referred to as the 'Monfort' lane, 'cuz them Monfort trucks weren't cut back and them meat loads had to go ! Dispatch wanted those loads to either coast in 24 hours....Yeaaaaah.:yes2557:

Well, got bad news today.... Should have waited before I "mouthed off":biggrin_25525:

Funny..... Last Friday had road test.... Did quite will; even road tester complemented me.... Successful drug test.... Was told orientation Thursday (today) then first dispatch Sat or Sun.

This was from the OWNER of the company. Called them today. Acted like they never even knew who I am. Got transferred to "safety dept" ; some woman that I'd never met. Prior to now, only knew of them having ONE dispatcher PLUS the OWNER (two people TOTAL) in the office.

Something is funny here..... She also told me my DOT med was "not valid". Funny, the card I got a week ago today, says good until 10/14/09. I had a bit of a BP problem on the day I took the exam, doc said come back in a few days (up to 3 months) and if BP was OK I'd get a card for 1 year. Today my BP was 117/64.

The reason it was up last week, was I was threatend by a neighbor with a gun on his hip, then a few days later he "pot shoted" at me from about 150 yards away. (don't even ask).

So, the "safety" woman said that I could not even be considered until I filled out YET ANOTHER app. Then said that the "short duration" medical was a "red flag" as well. I can see the misunderstanding if the owner himself had not been so enthusiastic just one week ago.

Scratching head, I'll tell ya that!!!

WOW!!! You and AllowMe are GOOD!!!

I remember those trucks; but about 30 years before I even became a driver. In fact, I always wondered if Monfort wasn't actually a meat packer themselves and just hauled their own stuff.

It is really GREAT to hear from you guys that REALLY know it all; not from those that just THINK they know it all!!!:biggrin_25525:
