I heard from an old driver about how when he was driving in the 70's and 80's the pay was comparable to lawyers and other white collar professions even though driving wasn't "white collar". Now it seems like most of us is just getting by. What happened over the years that dropped the wages for drivers and owner ops?
OLD TIMERS, what happened to driver pay?

Everybody cutting each other's throats. Mega companies getting larger and larger trying to run each other out of business by dropping the rates and spreading the cost across their larger fleets. And then there's the perpetual stream of dumb people that run cheap until they go out of business.

I have heard some great stories from drivers that drove when trucking was actually fun and drivers helping one another. Now its every driver for him or her self

Course lawyers probably charged less back then. Doctors certainly did.
