Hey, All –
BRIEF SYNOPSIS:
I've been away from here for a few years, since husband Brian was considering employment with Walmart. (Thank you all for assisting with that endeavor!) He did go to work with them, but left after the first year. With more than 40 years continuous trucking experience at that time, he decided that he simply couldn't deal with such intense micro-management. Ergo, he ended up back returning to a more local outfit that did (at that time) a small percentage (two trucks) of OTR – AND LEFT HIM ALONE TO COMPETENTLY DO HIS JOB.
Brian's specialty is OTR – he simply cannot abide local driving. But his present employer has recently announced to him that they are about to do away with all the OTR work. So, bless his heart, he is currently back in the market for employment
Yes, of course we have been scouring the public job boards in our search. However, I think we can all agree that there is NOTHING more meaningful, insightful or reliable than input from one's peers, such as yourselves… Hence, this post requesting your input.
Sooooooo (sigh) … Here goes:
BRIAN OFFERS:
Here's sorta-kinda what he's looking for:
- 44 years professional truck driver – (This guy has more years backing up than I have driving forward…
)
- EXPERIENCE: Dry Van / Tanker / Flatbed / Dump trailer / Recent Past HazMat / Current TWIC and Med Card
- Clean MVR
- Immaculate, highly-desirable references
- OTR qualified and accomplished
- Honest and dependable to a fault
- No intentions of retiring anytime soon
Heh … but “life” is such as I often tell him: Want in one hand and **** in the other – See which one fills up faster.
- OTR (or Regional or Dedicated) – we live in Connecticut. He wants to stay out for 1 week or 10 days, up to 2 weeks (I really don't think that I can tolerate more than that) with 2 to 4 days home. Ideally 600 miles+ per day.
- In a perfect scenario, he wants to run from (for instance) CT to Texas or thereabouts (or even further West-ish, Southwest-ish, etc.) – you know, a “fur piece” as we say Where I Come From
- He would love to work for a smaller company, Mom&Pop kinda thing or slightly larger – you know, 25-50 trucks. But again, that's just a “d'ruther” for a perfect world …
- Dry van, tanker or reefer – his Haz cert isn't current, but we can get him re-qualified if necessary, no biggie. He does have current TWIC as well as Tanker Endorsement. Although he has many years flatbed and dump trailer work, he doesn't need to be doing that anymore – no more climbing, tarping, etc., please.
- REQUIREMENT: 100% NO-TOUCH freight.
- PTO; Decent, affordable group health benefits; dental would be lovely; etc.
- Nice, newer WELL-MAINTAINED assigned truck/trailer; manual preferred. Decent sleeper with reliable inverter. (Fridge would be nice, but we can supply one if need be.) CB hook-up required.
- We neeed for him to make 70-75 CPM – 98-115k/yr (he is well worth it).
We will just have to work at this.
(Brian is currently laid up likely for another month with a badly cracked tibia, but will be back and ready to return for action in a few more weeks. So we have time to shop around.)
I want to thank everyone in advance for weighing in and offering your personal experiences and opinions for us, please-and-thank-you!!!

That kind of money without a hazmat endorsement is likely to be difficult -- but not impossible.
Check out Barr Nunn Transportation:
Regional North WeekendTruck Driver | $100k-$105k | Barr-Nunn Transportation
Be sure to verify/ask about:
- home time interval for your area (I think it will be either weekly, or every other week)
- whether he can take the rig home, or not (I could not -- but I'm waaaaaaayyy down yonder in "Georgey"
) - fuel options (earlier -- it was with ALL the major chains)

Between the mileage pay & the accessorials...expect about $100k -- maybe better, if he's a true runner.
Good equipment -- but pretty much an all automatic fleet.
Low driver turnover.
Do keep us posted on your progress...

Wow, I was aware of temp agencies but never heard of one specializing in trucking.
B will probably balk at the idea initially, but I can talk him into at least looking into it -- once I have already done so, LOL
Thanks again, Chinatown!!!Chinatown Thanks this.
