Buy what you want, that's in your price range, that's not a complete pos, and dont worry about anybody else's opinion. Consider it your storefront, you want it to look like some flea infested hole in the wall that might give you an "exotic" disease? That's the way I look at it anyway, but what do I know?

I’m not saying you shouldn’t spend and improve a Truck. IMO cheaper than new ones. I took that same advise “Buy what you want so your happy with it.”My Father told me that back when buying first Truck.I had a lot of anxiety and wanted to be practical. Instead I bought what I liked. Resale etc really didn’t matter in the end

Preferrably something you can pay cash for so you arent busting your ### just to make payments and can take time off pretty much whenever you want. You can throw a big pile of money at a used truck for what new costs and have a nicer truck if you ask me.

Umm... I can try the list is long. I acquired at the beginning of august 2017 the truck was last used 11/09 so had major dry rot issues, but no rust.

    exterior went something like this
    New tires
New Brakes, drums, chambers, and air lines all around
    Two new front rims
    New front hubs, bearings
    New Kingpins, tie rod ends.
Converted old wore out ag200 suspension to ag400
    Eight new suspension airbags
    New shocks all around.
    New cab airbags and shocks
    New Tank Strap Rubber
Pulled fifth wheel rebuilt it, changed slider cylinder
    Exhaust from elbows up new
    New grill
    New bumper
    New air cleaner cans
    Removed QUALCOMM and roof bracket
    Painted Fenders and Frame black
    Lights, wiper blades
New mud flap hangers and flaps
    Polished tanks and rims
Headache rack, catwalk, saddle boxes, half fenders
Replaced a bunch of rusty bolts with stainless bolts in the mirror brackets

    Under hood
    New radiator
New AC condenser Compressor, expansion valve, dryer
    Blower motor
I replaced some missing parts on the engine first and ran it for awhile then 40,000 miles after getting it back on the road I was getting metal shavings in the oil and developed multiple oil leaks.
Pulled engine and replaced with a rebuilt.
    New clutch
Changed trans and rear end fluids
    New top transmission shifting tower
    Steering gear box

Interior Had to get some used parts from salvage yards for this.
    Major scrub down
All new air vents replace broken or missing
    New driver side seatbelt
    Had tears in seats reupholstered
All New toggle switch indicator lights
    New radio and speakers(missing)
Used speaker covers from salvage yard
Used dash plaque labels from salvage yard
New low air buzzer and changed dummy lights while apart
    New fan speed switch.
Used upper center console cover plate from salvage yard(missing)
    New fuse box door
    New shifter knob
    Couple of New toggle switches
Properly ran new cb coax cable through headliner down through dash

    I know I'm missing stuff

I'm $60,000 into this truck. But this truck is so tight, drives like a new truck and its eld exempt can't put a price on that.

I like the looks of that Cabover but don’t miss the ride or hassle of getting around in it. I remember the Freightliners had a small area to stand in bunk to get dressed!! Everyone thought that was Great!!! Wouldn’t be bad on local runs home every night.

I know a guy has couple pete cabovers that he's fixed up pretty nice and uses to pull cattle a bit, they look nice but I wouldn't want to drive them. Know another guy who does tractor repair has an old mack cabover that he uses to go get stuff that needs fixed and haul a little grain when he does a little custom harvesting.

That’s any old Truck though. You just did it all at once. I’ve done about same or will Be soon over 10 yrs while running Truck. I think it’s worth it to do all at once if you can.Either way it’s Cheaper in the long run if you plan on keeping it.Looking at my #s over last 10 yrs tells the story. Was offered $20 k a few months ago. I paid $21k 10 yrs ago_Ofcourse inflation factors into that. I’m gonna keep it And probably spend $30 k over next 3 yrs. Still way ahead of game. Mainly because I like the Truck
