I am needing to buy a new carb. qualifying truck in the next coming months. I have gone to the freightliner in fresno ca. and the qualifying available are $99,500+. I then went to Giibbs International and their truck are more reasonable. My issue now is that I don't know which way to go Cummings vs Maxxforce.... Can I get some honest answers........... This questioned might have been asked here before, newbie here.....
On a newer Eagle Cummings vs. Maxxforce?

Stay away from the MaxiPad. They are nothing but problems, they don't pull worth a darn, the Jake brakes are basically useless.

As J Frog said the Maxxforce engine is not a good choice. The jake brake does not work that good and the company I used to work for got a bunch of them and they where constantly in the shop for coolant leaks and egr related problems. To me Cummins would be the better choice.
Are you going with a new or used truck and have you thought of checking out of state to see if you could get a better deal? -
I am going with a used truck. Dealing with the TVP voucher through the San Joaquing Valley Air District. I don't want to used up my saving, so I am applying for the grant/voucher. it's either 25% or 35% of the cost of the replacement truck.. freightliner wont come down from 99,500-110,00 for 2011-2012 vs. International 65-79,000 for similar years....freightliner 99,500+taxes(8.5%)+extended warranty came to 99,500+8500+4000=112,000-35%=$72,800 to be financed vs. International 70,000+taxes(8.5)+extended warranty(maybe depending on mileage)4000=79950-25%=60,000 to be financed.....not sure y international through voucher is only 25% of new truck value....

I'd stay away from the used maxxFARCE. My LTL company bought 10 of them, pre DEF and got rid of them after only 8 months because of all the problems. As others have said, the jakes are essentially worthless and they do not pull hills worth a crap either.
MR ME Thanks this. -

Maxxforce is garbage. Avoid like the plague. The are ridden with tons of EGR and fan-drive issues - we have had one 2012 tractor go through 4 fan-drives within the past 11 months. I wouldn't even recommend them to my worst enemy.
MR ME Thanks this. -
First off its CUMMINS, not Cummings. Secondly, stay away from MAXXFORCE.
MR ME, TORQUE WRENCH and Elvenhome21 Thank this. -
Did you know, if you order a truck and ask for a "cummings" they will build it with a Maxxforce!
TORQUE WRENCH, Elvenhome21, MR ME and 1 other person Thank this. -
I don't know but I would think that since California is setting the standards with the carb compliant trucks they might be a little higher since you will not be able to purchase an older truck. I would try to check elsewhere and see if I could beat the price. I do not know if you can trade yours in in California but other states will take a trade. Just my two cents worth.
MR ME Thanks this.
