Most of the time unless the delay is weather related the delivery driver is the last link on the (CF) chain. Honestly I have delivered loads late before. In most of them once accepted I was empty in a reasonable time. If however a driver is delayed the driver is either going to get paid some detention or they won't. If you stay in this business long enough you will see how a driver can get something even better then detention pay if the FM can't pay it. A lot of FM's know who to call if said driver is close enough. They can count on these drivers to get en route ASAP not gripe and moan about the situation. They also trust these drivers when they say I will have it there by (insert time here). In return these drivers sometimes are the first loaded even if they are not the first in. These drivers can sometimes get new tractors as well. There is other ways to repay a driver. My FM kept my butt running. In fact so much I was out of hours. I had rather be in this situation making a lot more money because I took care of my FM them make what? 20 bucks? 30 Bucks? This is the thing I have been trying to get across to you green drivers. Don't piss off your FMs moaning about something. Let that FM learn that you can fix their problems and watch how a FM will reward you. And YES they will reward you.

That's not to say that the company called the receiver to change the appointment time, just that the company arbitrarily changed the appointment time so that it will appear that the delivery was made on time, and detention can be paid.
FWIW, my company pays $15 to bump the dock on a live unload, and the detention clock starts after 30 minutes at $16/hour. The driver is to call dispatch when they have 3 hours left on their 14, and dispatch will call the receiver to find out why they're not unloaded yet. If they don't like what they hear, dispatch will instruct the driver to yank the load out of the door and vacate the premises so they can either return to the terminal or get to a place where they can take their 10 hour break.
My company does not take any crap from receivers.
