I know right. Heck I split log like crazy when I can. Specially when going to a shipper where I know I'll be there at least two hours.
Night dispatch freaked when I split logged. They didn't want me to do it, so I said OK, I won't. I did it anyway and kept my appt time which kept the customer happy and it was all legally done. My regular FM said "wow I forgot you could do that"
Night dispatch...need I say more
Ethanscottied67 Thanks this. -
Yeppers peppers, tis' what I do. I have the freakin on call phone sitting here at my desk. So much for a fun weekend

Question 7's answer completely supports what i'm telling you.
If you go back and forth between lines 1 and 2 for 5 hours, you'll need to still take an additional 8 hours in the sleep without interruption before driving, which means you just took a 13 hour break to be legal.
I know 2 people with 2 different companies whose sole position is Logs. They are so well-educated on the FMCSA and logs, that they will correct DOT offices/officers when a driver is unjustly found to be in violation.
You may be getting away with it, but that doesn't mean it's correct.
But whatever. I'll keep doing it my way, knowing that no matter what, the validity of my rest period cannot be questioned unless someone has video proof that I interupted my sleeper by going off duty. -
I was just telling my boss how I used to tell my drivers not to call nights or weekends and just do what they thought was right. If it was wrong, we'd deal with it on Monday.DrtyDiesel Thanks this.

It's totally right, and yeah if they work in logs they should be DataQ challenging things. If they're not then they aren't doing their jobs. It's not all red pens and snarky remarks working in logs. Especially with eLogs because that red pen really marks up the monitor.Gearjammin' Penguin and DrtyDiesel Thank this.

... So then after "SANCTUARY" comes this rule;
"POWER NAP"
Take the consecutive 3 hours or more off duty and or in the sleeper , and subtract it by 10 & this will be the amount of time you will need in the sleeper before you get a whole new reset. -
Meltom also deals with logs on a daily basis. 8/2 split is completely legal. Also going back and forth is legal. I've done it, e logs let me do it, DOT didn't bring it up when they printed out my logs for last month. Also they never mentioned the three occasions I drove past my 14 to find a safe place to park. Imagine that.

There aint a cop in the world gonna believe that every single day you went straight from the bed to the drivers seat. You didnt go piss or brush your teeth or nothing huh???? You stop for the night and jump right in the bed then jump right back in the drivers seat???? Common sense says that no one SLEEPS for 10 hours out here. You go eat, use the bathroom, take a shower, I hope.... If you want to log so legit, how about doing it as you do it, going into wendy's to get a burger and logging it as 10 straight in the sleeper is not right. If you want to preach right then do it right.
DrtyDiesel and Meltom Thank this. -
Question 7 only refers to when using the split sleeper provision, not when taking the full 10 hour break.
The next link, I provided, refers to the full 10 hour break.
Do you work for OOIDA? I've heard them bungle it on their radio show Land Mine Now.not4hire Thanks this.
