It does with Omnitracs. Ive used it with two different companies and it was the same. The only off duty that dont count against your 70 on omnitracs is 10 hours straight off duty. Of course the 30 minute break and the two hours off duty that goes with your 8 hr sleeper dont count against 70 but 5 hrs here and 5 hours there does count against your 70 on Omnitracs. Or they did on the two Ive used anyway.

I did contact both of them and they both said the same thing- unless its either 10 hours Off Duty or 8 hours sleeper and 2 hours off duty, it is considered by Omnitracs to be On Duty. Thats why I had them removed from my truck.

Yes, I log all time at a shipper or receiver on line 4. I'm in a day cab, so no sleeper berth to use. If It's been long enough, I might show my 30 minute break before I roll out, but for the most part, from the time I leave the house in the morning until I get back home, I'm on duty. So what if it burns up my 70? Hardly ever use it all anymore anyway. And when I did? After working 5 days @ 13-14 hours, it was the perfect way to get out of weekend work. Once you say "I don't have the hours", the conversation is over. The way I figure, if I can't make enough M-F, working the weekend isn't going to help.

That's crazy. HTH are you supposed to make any money? That's why the 70 is on duty/driving, in an 8-day week, as opposed to the daily 14 which ticks down regardless of what line you're on.

    Wow.

If the law says to do it I do it. I get paid hourly so it's all the same to me. If I run out of hours I go home. I realize 99.999999% of the time I'd be fine but God forbid I get in a serious accident and they go back looking at my logs with a fine tooth comb. So I play it safe and I don't get nervous during inspections.

When I arrive to a plant, I log on duty while I check in with security and get situated. It takes like 15 minutes. Since the shipper always loads me, I log sleeper. This is because I'm sitting in the truck and doing nothing. Sleeper will count against your hours for that day, but not on your 70. My company said it was fine to log sleeper if you are in the truck and getting loaded by the shipper.
If you stay on duty, you will run out of driving hours quick and make significantly less money. If you are a local driver, then you don't have to worry about saving precious hours so much.

I'm on paper logs, easier to rearrange, LoL! Kinda like @Thermos Bottle and his theories ~!!!

It totally takes knowing the ins and outs of HOS. . . He's spot-on, though. When I was OTR / and even 'daily' . . . I do the same!~

In 10 years I have never once logged an unload as on duty. I log pre trips and fuel on duty and that is it. The 70 is a precious thing to us OTR guys.

Yea its crazy. Thats why I always advocate against Elogs. Its gonna cause drivers to lose a lot of money and do a lot of sitting. I told the first companysince thats the way it was, they could take it out of my truck. They said well if you cant run elog, you might as well find somewhere else for your truck. The next company ended up having the same thing. I told them I wouldnt run it so they let me run paper.
