What are the first things or accessories you will purchase for your rig. For example, CB? GPS? The list goes on and on....

What would you recommend for a CB radio? I've been reading up on the Rand McNally GPS and seems everyone has had huge issues with them. What's the top GPS brand and model?

if i was youi would hold off on buying a GPS and just use an atlas and google maps for awhile and see how you do without one. Most qualcomms have them but the company i run for doesnt use the option for them and ive never had a problem not having one

Rugerfan is right... A GPS, is not a bad idea, but you wanna learn the highways as much as possible on your own before you depend on electronics. No, I don't have years of experience, but I was trained by 2 individuals with a combined 40+ years of experience. Both of them put much emphasis on not depending on GPS. However, I do plan on getting a Rand McNally soon. The company I currently drive for has the oldest known Qualcomm directional system, known to this industry. So depending on who you drive for as well, it's not a bad idea.

Ok so a cb, mattress, refrigerator, tv, and then a GPS once I start getting some pay checks. I agree with that I'm good with a map. I'm guessing the company already pre-routes you and gives you the directions being a company driver anyways....

I never use a GPS for directions. An atlas and then google maps for when I get close to the destination for the local directions. Just remember not to relay on electronics to tell you where to go, or you might end up under a low bridge somewhere.
Definately a new mattress, if they're not nice enough to give you a new one. I just use my laptop for movies and netflix.

Where in Berkshire County are you from?? I'm from Pittsfield myself.

A Fridge! I loved not having to pay $2 for a friggin bottle of water when I could pay $4 for a 12 pack of it at a grocery store. A latop if you don't have one already. Basic Tools and carry extra Lights, a few marker lights and an extra headlamp. Extra fuses. Some exercise bands(take up no room, great to kill time, great stress reliever) Plenty of gloves. I hate GPS and will never use it! With google maps and and rand McNallyTrucker atlas, Ill find where I'm going just find. I like to know multiple routes into where i'm going just in case the original one is blocked or incorrect. I'm also a Nerd and I love to just read Maps anyway LOL!

I really liked the XM radio when I drove OTR in 04-06. When I became local, A Driver introduced me to streaming my music and since I was local I never had any reception issues. If you like to read, then a Kindle is a must! I have the app for my smart phone and I have 30+ books on it and it is wonderful! For CBs, I have always been partial to COBRA, because that is what my Father always used. I tried UNIDEN twice and was not happy. But unless you're going to be a chatty kathy, one of the little $50 ones will do you fine for talking at a customer or a T/S or someone going down the road. I don't need to heard 5 miles away.

For TVs, I just used my laptop for movies and video games. I really enjoyed having a behind the seat organizer. Keeps everything where I can reach it quickly and out of the way.
