Oh oops. Yeah I’ll be working like 9 months a year. Unemployment is more than I made working at my last job lol.

That’s part of why I chose this job. I Don’t want to work when it’s brutal cold.

I’d rather save my ot, if I work ot in the summer my time is worth more that way.

15 hours of ot a week is better to me than 40 hours of straight pay year round.

I think you usually go on unemployment around mid December.

No I meant how long the construction season is. It's Minnesota, can you pour concrete in December or January up there?

Some really good answers in this thread, but I’m gonna put my 2 cents in anyways.

My best advice would be figure out what it is you would enjoy, then go do it or take steps towards achieving it. Focus on the 25m target. If you get good at what you do and find the right company money won’t be an issue.

Since you asked though, as someone who has done a little oilfield hauling, van/reefer, and now flats/OSOD, I would say the most honest answer is.... It depends.

This is a fact. I work oil field.

Every year requires I get classes in how to deal with potential H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide) releases and get fit tested for a breathing apparatus. Any facial hair will break the seal.

Often I get dispatched on high paying loads ahead of other drivers that refuse to shave their beards. If I were to calculate how much money I make per year because I am clean shaven, it probably adds about $10-20K to me.

Yes. You can’t do walls and bridge decks and stuff like that but you can do inside work like basements and grout and stuff underground like storm drains.

So, now 6-12 months is considered an "experienced" driver, and that's when you're due the big bucks just like the Old Timers that have been honing their craft 3/4 of their lives ?

    Sigh.

My daughter graduated from college a few years ago and she posted some garbage on social media the other day about how unfair it is that it takes so long to advance in the career fields.
"Can't buy a decent house" (she lives in an high end district),
"Can't afford this or that because car payments are so expensive" ( Do as your old man does and drive an older vehicle thats WAY paid off).
"Can't afford to pay off student debt"
(Well, dingbat, I told to go to community college for 2yrs and transfer.. then I'd help... BUT, NOOO!!
    gotta have the Experience)

    Smh

I did NOT raise her to be a Snowflake.
    It's the culture.
They've watched me go out and kill something and drag it home to eat every day of their lives..
    It didn t set.

Should some one wait 5 years until they move to make more money? Why not a six months if they can. Personally most of the starter companies pay like #### and I'm glad he can move.

Your daughter, I was young once too. Now I'm happy with a used car with no payments. Dave Ramsey inspires me.
