I want to haul rvs direct from the manufacturer. These loads are NOT on load boards. I'm curious once I get my authority do I just approach the manufacturer and let them know I'm available? Do they work with small companies of only 2 trucks and drivers? I'm not quite sure how the process works once you get your authority in regards to finding steady loads direct from the manufacturer.

I would start by hauling for an established company and learn from there.

No.1 if you think you have learned it all in one year, I need to start hanging out with you. Because i'm still learning. You had better have a game plan that includes something else or you are possible in for an unpleasant surprise. The shipper, traffic person, logistics co., is not going to just start using you because you now have your own authority. First you will have to find out who to talk to. Then you will have to develop some kind of relationship with them. They may not be interested. You had better have a backup plan. If you make contact and they turn you down and also contact your former carrier. What do we do now? If they do decide to entertain your offer they may bring you along slowly. Can you wait out slowly? Another thing is a good many of those people like to be entertained, lunch, dinner, sports event tickets. It is not like you pick up the phone and you are rolling, it takes time. Like a friend of mine says if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

To add to what The Admiral said, if you approach the manufacturer after working for someone that was hauling directly for them, make sure that you don't have some sort of back solicitation clause you signed as part of your employment package.

No matter what you signed, if the company you used to work for doesnt like you cutting there throat, they will sue and win or render you unable (financhally) to stay in business. Just a thought. :biggrin_25525:

If you've been doing the job you want to get your own authority and don't know how to get your foot in the door, you're not ready for your own authority.

You got a lot to learn, especially if you are asking the question "now what?"

    You are so right.

The reason that you don’t see the loads on load boards is that RV manufacturers don’t want to have to deal with hundreds of independent O/O’s. They would rather just contract directly with a select few hauling companies and let them deal with vetting drivers.

Unless you can approach them offering to provided capacity for hauling large portions of their products you have nothing to offer them.

    hiii98 Thanks this.
