Another not paying attention...
SAULT STE. MARIE -- A 38 year old man is dead following a multiple vehicle crash in Chippewa County on Friday afternoon.
The victim of this crash has been identified as 38 year old Grant Louis Childs from Fort Meyers, Florida. His family has been notified of his death by staff at War Memorial Hospital.
At approximately 4:00 pm, Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post responded to a multiple vehicle crash involving a Semi Tractor with trailor on North Bound I-75 near the Easterday Ave Exit, Sault Ste. Marie.
Investigation at the scene revealed a total of seven vehicles were involved in this crash including a Ken Graham Trucking Inc. Semi-Truck. Vehicles involved were from Illionois, Minnesota, Ontario, Canada and Michigan.
So far, investigation reveals there was traffic back up south of the toll booths on north-bound I-75. A Semi-Truck from Ken Graham Trucking Inc. out of Brimley, MI was traveling north-bound and failed to stop for the backed up traffic. The Semi-Truck first collided with one vehicle then three additional vehicles. All vehicles sustained extensive damage.
The passenger in the first struck vehicle died as a result of the injuries received in the crash. Six other passengers from the other vehicles were transported to War Memorial Hospital with minor to serious injuries.
The driver of he Semi-Truck is being lodged in the Chippewa County Jail on a charge of Reckless Driving Causing Death. The driver's name is being withheld pending arraignment...
