I spent over 14 years moving and operating equipment for a electrical and mechanical contractor.
We were at 1 time one of the top contractors for csx.
I’ve set in many meetings at corporate in Jacksonville, and lead many jobs as well on the bridges along the gulf in the south. When gooberment & homeland security is involved, things tend to be a little different than normal run of the mill operations I agree.
The RR bridge running parallel to 90 in Bay St. Louis, Mississsippi is the 1st bridge we had operational from a remote location.
All just to take control of a train had it ever been hijacked.
After Hurricane Katrina I was standing on Bay St. Louis draw taking a picture of the 1st engine to run the rail after the storm.
During the rebuild trying to get the RR back up and functional, we could have killed folks and no one would have cared…. but, after that 1st train ran, it was back to the can’t do this & can’t do that safety procedures….
One of the biggest strikes in US history is brewing at UPS

I couldn’t post the link to the article but it’s fairly interesting. With the shortage of help at nearly every company currently I think Fed Ex may have no choice but to listen.LtlAnonymous and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -

FedEx sent me a request to onboard last week… Has anyone ever dealt with them as a contract carrier? Or is that all they use?

I was around a lot of good guys within csx, but a lot of stick in the mud a ss holes too.
John Camp is now retired and probably under ground, bad health. He was a total prick!!
Had a crew of men in Selkirk, NY doing a job for him. Limited time for the cutout, and an unexpected storm came out of nowhere. Guys ( electricians / linemen ) threw their raincoats on and kept working trying to be productive and get the job done.
John instead of being thankful, called in on them because they didn’t put the safety vest on the outside of the raincoat. And they were in the yard away from the tracks.
Mr. Owens, one of the greatest guys worked with!! Getting ready to retire, and still working like a young man. By far the best EIC ( Employee in Charge ) I ever was around.
The yellow Hirail I now own, does not have insulated Hirails. Being around the track I’m sure you know what happens when those wheels hit the rail, unless you’re in dark territory.
He would work with us tooth and nail to get that truck on the rail and get it where it needed to be, other guys just slacked off and took naps saying there were to many trains to get us on location…..
This pic was taken on the Rigolet south of Slidell along Lake Borne as it’s called….
