That's good. You have a strong determined attitude which is a major plus.Yes I heard some bad things about trucking while attending school but ignored it all and here I am still at it.I knew what it would be like even without people telling me.Of course what I have been thru its worse then when I first started but you learn to accept it all with more exp you gain.

Like they said, trucking is what you make of it and it is a lifestyle, not just a job. Normally you don't have your weekends and it can be hard to get things done if you have a house, or like to hunt, fish etc. Since your single it will be easier and you won't have as much to worry about. Go in with a positive attitude and do what it takes to get the job done, hopefully if you take care of them they will take care of you. If not there are a lot of companies looking for drivers.
You do have some crap that comes with the job, but my experience with the company I work for has been great, however others who can't think for themselves or constantly complain think differently. A lot of it is what you make of it.
My experience with the veteran drivers and asking advice has been good.Skydivedavec, pattyj and JPearson Thank this. -

I simply believe that there is a mystery to the ordinary ... that what we see as commonplace is full of wonder ... and that this life is different from what we think it is. Our lives are infinately more subtle, more powerful, more dangerous, more magnificent, more exciting, more humerous, more delicious, more adventurous, more involved and also more troublesome than most of us believe. We are in this world as strangers ... strangers to others and sometimes to ourselves ... we don't belong here ... most of us feel like square pegs in round holes ... nothing fits quite like it should or how we would like it to fit ... but still, we are staying here for a bit ... and it's a nice place, an interresting place and we should enjoy it for what it is ... but wether we belong here is still a question. Instead, consider your life a glorious opportunity ...(no matter what path you choose) ... or if you fail in this, though you succeed in everything else, your life will have been a failure. Love what you do, do what you love ... there will always be more questions than answers ... your life will either be a daring adventure or it will be nothing at all ... we all die, but we do not all live.

My advise is to ignore the negativity and do what you want to do with your life. It's your life. Not your family's or your friends. Trucking probably isn't what you think it is. Nothing is ever quite like we imagine it's going to be before we have a chance to experience it. There are going to be surprises. Some will be good, some will be bad. But I would say that to somebody thinking about going into any profession (and as a middle school teacher and college professor, I've had this discussion quite a bit).
Your family probably reacted badly because trucking does have a bit of a public image problem. Hopefully once you get out of school and start working, they'll see things differently. Trucking is a solid career choice if you've got the right attitude. It's not for everybody, but then again, no career is for everybody. That's what makes life fun. Everybody's different. And if your family is still giving you grief, you can tell them them a college math professor thinks it's great career choice! I have a ton of respect for truckers.Skydivedavec, JPearson and Nightwind8830 Thank this. -
