As crazy as this sounds it is because the recruiter from the jump honestly didn't seem to care whether I came on or not and that was a bit refreshing. Every other recruiter seemed eager to want to tell me what I wanted to hear. One even asked the question - "What can i tell you to make us your top choice?" I have read some horror stories about Swift and a couple other places but I also saw a few success stories. I don't go into this thinking this will be a perfect company but they did seem to offer some things that really fit my needs now. I would love to hear others thoughts but I hope I can hear some good things as well as some bad things to be looking out for. I am a brand new driver willing to take his lumps but would prefer to take only the necessary lumps lol. Thoughts?
One reason why I just chose Swift

Hey-How are you?Yeah,i have a few thoughts.I'll preface it i never worked for Swift.I don't see where they are a bad company.Really big though not bad. This trucking career is more what you make of it and how you handle what you are presented with. The more their system,or whatever company you might work for, fits you the better result you will have. Some days will seem realy confused. What you learn on those days makes the next confusing day less so.Be patient, take your time.Find out what works and what doesn't.Try to do the things that work.
More than anything, have fun.Hopefully, you'll go places and see things you might have otherwise.Take care.Brianinkeper, Newtrucker48, A21CAV and 1 other person Thank this. -
thanks Brian! I was hoping to get at least one reply like that. I had a friend just now see that I had narrowed my choices down to two and without even knowing who I was thinking about he said don't go with (my two choices) lol! I was like "oh crap!"

Ive done those job fairs with the swift recruiter in Denver, I was glad he was of the opinion that we don't want retarded lazy drivers. Not sure how great I was cause I remember one guy asking me about the job and told me his circumstance and I told him go with the local job

The starter companies are all pretty much the same, it's just learning to work within their system. Swift is a good company for the most part, good benefits, decent pay once you are there and are able to make it past the opening 25CPM. I know that lots come and go quickly, but many come, find their niche and stay. Been here almost 7 years myself, and I know lots of drivers that have been here much longer. Work hard, be safe, learn every day, and be honest, not only to the company but to yourself as well and you shouldn't have any major problems.
There will be lots of people that will talk bad about Swift (someone's brother's best friend's uncle had a bad experience with Swift), or someone had an accident and Swift fired them but they won't tell you the full story about the wreck...you need to be cautious with those people about what you believe. There will be some that had an honest bad time with Swift, listen to them, you might learn something about them and about Swift. If you expect Swift to just give you what you want, don't come here. Work for it, earn it, and you'll be ok.
And whatever you do, do not get into the lease a truck end of Swift unless you have done the company thing for at least 2 years. Just my opinion, some have made it work, many have not.
Good luck to you!Newtrucker48, Moosetek13, A21CAV and 7 others Thank this.
